I lost all Sky satellite reception in the last few days. Has Sky stopped sending to D2 already?  I thought they were switching in May.

Looks like the Optus D2 satellite has been moved and it's impacted some customers - see link below (sorry can't quickly locate the original article). I guess you need to call Sky.

The move to inclined orbit was done MONTHS ago. It looks like the new plan is for Optus 10 to be the backup once more. I expect Skys test found they had thousands of LNBFs that would need to get swapped out to enable backup from 156E.... which they have no hope in doing with the current lack of technicians after they changed to Downers.

I havn't seen any sign of backup sats being moved over to 160E. The other sat parked at 160E with Australian traffic Measat3a is 15 years old and the beams don't really suit nz on KU band. I think they are digging themselves into a bigger hole.

Touched on it a lil while ago.

Was an investor update today. Reads like they intend on moving something into 160 (presumably 10) and flagging the alignments.

As a result, Sky is now focusing its migration activity on the preferred satellite, which will be located in the same orbital slot as D2. The alternative satellite which is in a different orbital slot will remain a contingency option for Sky, further improving security of supply for its customers.

Optus 10 cannot be moved.

Optus don't have any "spare" sats

Optus D3 at 156E is aussies Foxtel and funny enough is inclined 0.7degree the same as D2...

Optus 10 is the only sat NOT inclined and is in use already for aussie so its not moving either

Optus D1 at 152E is heavily inclined no longer usable for DTH, needs tracking still used for sports feeds.

Measat3a a 15 year old sat is already parked at 160E..but its footprints on ku were set to focus on indonesia and another beam on Malaysia.  If they try too reconfigue it its gonna have its own set of issues. In particular the LNB skew is miles off when compared to Optus.

Seems rather an odd move to put a tester on 3, load up 10 then today go 'no panic, were going to have something in the same spot even tho it hasn't launched yet so we don't have to make sure everyone has dual throat and correctly aligned'

D2 doesn't appear to be operating at 160E anymore.  We had no problems with signal up to a few days ago.  It's a 80cm privately installed dish (14 years ago) so booked someone to realign to 156E on Thursday.

It's wobbling. Within tolerance of most standard installs. If it was completely off all of nz would lose sky and Freeview currently.

Appears A larger dish needs more finite alignment.

No, don't realign to 156E you will get nothing there on an Official Sky box as they havn't told to go to the new frequencys.

Besides that Sky have changed plan, 156E Optus 10 will now be the backup backup satellite, They will go with the option of a satellite at 160E. There is already Measat3a parked at 160E doing services for Australia. However it remains to be seen as to if they will try and reconfigure it to be something usable for both Freeview and SKy's usage. AS far as I know it was desgined to only have 2 KU footprints, one shaped over Indonesia and the other shaped over Malaysia. These type of fixed pattern footprints don't tend to be very adjustable, althought they are extremely high eirp compared to the optus ones.

Optus can't move any of their sats as they no longer have spare sats that are geostationary other than Optus 10.

If they plan to use Measat3a it will have its own set of issues.

Get your popcorn ready.

I'm using a non-Sky Sky decoder, and just found that all my HD channels are not working.  After much faffing about with our dish I did a satellite channel re-scan and now have them all back.  I'm guessing that those channels moved, and that if I was using the official Sky decoder it would have received an update to reprogram them.

Optus 10 @ 156E, the title of the thread.

I've noticed a marked degradation in picture quality of late - I wonder if it's a result of the destabilised orbit of the satellite.
