KoolKiwiNZ:

If this really is the case then I feel conned!  Given that a Western Digital 1TB hard drive currently costs $78 (based on Pricespy), and even the Video optomised AV-GP WD10EURS is only $90.  SO, I've more than paid for the replacement 1TB hard drive in the $99 upgrade cost, as well as being billed $5 a month (ongoing) for the privilege. So I'll be paying for the hard drive again and again every year! :(

Just tell them what you told us here, and they should refund you and switch you back. If the old box was ok for 3d and they told you incorrect informtion, then they would need to pay for that error.

If you have a pin and press blue button for "keep" - the kids shouldn't be able to delete your stuff - unless they know the pin.

We have a pin for parental control to stop them from watching content not deemed suitable for them.  They guessed the last pin though as we were using the default 0000 - but have since changed it when my son told me he knew what it was.

Dingbatt:
penfald: The good thing about MySky compared with TiVo is that it has 4 tuners so it if you are recording two channels that finish at say 8:30 and start to record 2 other channels that start at 8:30 it will still get plenty of overlap by using all 4 tuners as long as the channel you are watching is one of the 4

If you look at the planner you can see all 4 are recording at the same time.
I have been using TiVo as my primary recorder as it has over a TB of storage (with the expander) and my MySky is always full. With  TiVo even if you are recording 2 episodes of Simpsons in a row it will lose the first 10 mins of the second episode if you are recording another channel

(sorry if I am off topic)

One thing the new recorder really needs is the ability to create groups with so many eipsodes we will now be able to record

Penfald

Are you sure about this?  I was under the impression that what you suggest would make the machine lock up because the limitation is only 2 recordings at any instant and you are suggesting you can do 4.  I must give it a try because I initially did try when I first got the MySkyHDi (a couple of years ago I think Undecided) and it wouldn't do it.

Sorry LennonNZ my question was about the +, not the current one.

This is incorrect.  4 tuners yes, 2 for recording, 1 for live/time shifting and 4th for On Demand etc.  When you see 4 channels recording at once it will still only be using 2 tuners (ie: recoding the same two channels twice - end of one programme and start of the next on each channel).  If you are recording from more than two channels it crops the appropriate recordings if they start/end at the same time.  If not same time it will give you a warning.

The lock-up bug only existed in the first several months, until it was fixed by a software update.

Damn. MY kids do the same to me!  I might have to start deleting Disney crap as revenge. The fact that I pay for it has apparently no bearing on what unviewed content is retained or deleted.

I can confirm that my MySky+ is exactly the same Hardware / Software version as above.  Only difference is the 1TB drive.

Did it come in a new box, wrapped up etc, ie: new?  I can see what they will be doing if it is the same hardware etc, once the drives in the HDMI's fail they will put a 1TB hard drive in and repackage them as MySky+.

The one I got arrived in what appeared to be an original box / packaging.  It certainly appears to be in brand new condition, however there is no date of manufacture etc on any of the labels, so who really knows?

But your thought had occurred to me also.  If a 320GB drive failed, it would make more sense for them to just replace the drive with a new 1TB drive, to refurbish the unit as a MySky+.  The only other difference is a new logo on the front right hand drop down plastic door, otherwise it is identical.

It appears to be new stock.  Mine came in a sealed box, even had the plastic protector tape over the LED's. Also has the new gadget/plastic smell :)
And it is specifically branded MySky+, the instruction book also refers to it as MySky+ throughout.

Forgot to add the eSata port has been moved to the back, was in the front panel under the sky card flap on the HDi model.

I wonder why they bother with it at all.
