Rentakill:

Hi there.

Quick Question - Not Related to the Sky Pod.

Can anyone with a new Sky Box (Satellite Based Unit) confirm if the Box is running a separate SmartCard or is it running an Embedded Crypt System ?.

Its either going to have a Card hidden behind a Slot or not.

I see Sky are running Dual NDS and Irdeto Encryption and assume the new box is utilising Irdeto and not NDS as their Old MySkyHD Boxes used.

Cheers:

I think you only need to login with your Sky username and password

When the power button is pressed on the SkyPod as well as powering on devices via HDMI CEC it should also swap the television to the HDMI port it is connected to as it does not do this at present and because the Input AV button is not working you need a second remote at the moment.

Just trying to setup the Pod, having stretched out VTV usage to the last day. Turned on and connected to my wifi ok. It's been stuck on step 1 of 'system update installing' and doesn't seem to be moving. How long has this typically taken?

Hmm.  My one does this fine.

I have my pod plugged in to HDMI3.

TV on, showing HDMI1.  Switch on Sky Pod - it switches to HDMI3.

TV on, showing HDMI1.  Switch TV off with its remote.  Press power button on Sky Pod remote.  TV Powers on.  Shows the HDMI1 input, then switches to HDMI3

Maybe related to your setup?

Not sure what went wrong with my reply. What I was trying to say was I unplugged the pod do it rebooted.

All setup. Seems to work well enough for what we need it for so far and via wifi (router is on the other side of the room). TVNZ channels only being on the app may be a bit frustrating but manageable (I'll need to make some instructions for my wife). We don't watch too much live on TVNZ anyway so this should be ok, main frustration will be for something like Shortland Street which my wife watches religiously. We'll often tend to sit down for dinner after it's started so with VTV it's easy to watch from the start. If it's not available on the app until after it's finished on TV that would get frustrating, but if the episode is released at the same time it broadcasts then that's fine - never checked this so will do tonight.

Has anyone found a way to pair the remote to the TV so the av/input button can be used to change which HDMI instead of having to use a second remote? And also for the remote to control the volume of the TV (mine is via soundbar) rather than only the Pod device. VTV remote did these so would like the same functionality.

Also with VTV I had the vodafone wifi extenders provided by Vodafone - one connected to the router and the second connected to the VTV box as it was the earlier generation box (provided with broadband/TV package rather than bought standalone) without wifi. Does anyone know if these can be repurposed to connect to the Pod to provided a wired connection? If so, what settings would I change on them to make it work?

Setup the Skypod this morning

Swapped old VTV ethernet connection to my new router Asus RT-AX3000 and the Skypod. Connected easily

Took about 5mins to pair remote Holding OK button and down arrow for three seconds and then click OK was needed as suggested on screen. I assume that restarts the bluetooth pairing process

No system update needed according to Skypod screen ( and the same later after I went into Android settings)

Logged into Google account first - made logging into apps much easier as saved passwords and login enabled in my Google account.

Just selected suggested login details from Google to login to Sky account that I had setup months ago when direct billing to Sky started

A strange popup prompt sometimes appears when scrolling down Sky channels about upgrading when the channel is highlighted but I think this is lag in the EPG.

Then logged into all apps I wanted such as Netflix and PrimeVideo and TVNZ+. Had to setup Skypod as new device but that was easy with QR code

Did not find the EPG too slow after a short use but jerky in parts and not logical in the use of keys and arrows. maybe it will get better. As other have said like something like  10-15yrs ago

The main user of the TV is not back until this afternoon so we will have to see

One plus is turning off the Skypod also turns off the old Panasonic plasma TV via the HDMI. Sadly turning on the Skypod does not turn the TV on so still need two remotes on the desk

Now to cancel my Vodafone internet account (a twinge after so many years on cable starting with the Chello days). Am now on 2 degrees fibre.

There seems a lot of comments on the new Sky Pod, is there anyone on here that can give any feedback in the new Android Sky Box ?

Got my SkyPod earlier and just set it up.
To be fair to Sky it was actually pretty painless and didnt take long at all.
Plug in, Connect ethernet and power.
It did an update straight away
Longest thing was logging into my Google account, this should have some kind of QR login or something but that might be a google thing vs Sky.

Yes the menu is a little buggy and slow, but as long as keys are pressed with a slight delay and not rushed then it handles controls quite well.
It did once start opening menus randomly when i wasnt pushing anything but hasnt happened since.

My biggest issue is
Vodafone TV had 4k (unsure if this was variable or not) and 5.1ch Audio
SkyPod defaults to 1080p....It has the 4K option if forced but i think all sky channels are 1080p so no point. And my biggest bug bear is it only outputs 2ch Audio.

So im going to have to live with it but a 2ch being upmixed into 5.1.2ch system is really not ideal.

Some Sky channels are 576i (some of these still use mpeg2 to be compatible with Freeview sat, e.g., Prime+1 (image quality is absolutely vulgar)), some are 1080i.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Make sure HDMI-CEC is enabled in all your settings. Some TVs have another name for it, example Samsung call it Anynet+ Sony call it Bravia sync or link. Depends on your TV brand.

So, have set up two of the new pods. Not impressed. Slow, laggy when changing screens and to get a cler image when changing channels and TVNZ needing to be on the APP annoying.

Also, our dog has never eaten anything of ours. Today she demolished the white remote! Smithereens. Wonder what the plastic is made of? Maybe she doesn't like the new pod either?

Thanks, got that on and it allows me to use the remote for the TV to control the Sky Pod (apart from using the numbers for a channel - that defaults to freeview). Hoping there is a way for the Sky remote to be able to change HDMI input and control the volume of the TV/sound bar.
