Sky Pod, yes. Sky no. Ive had Sky for years, "it just works"

”It just works” is often used in relation to Apple - as a compliment.

In Sky’s case it could probably be used in the sense of “it only-just works”.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

What is the Sky Box?

It's the replacement for the old, black, MySky HDi Sky Box

After 3 days of using the Sky Pod I'm happy enough that it does what we need so far. Expectations were low reading this thread but on first look, it's worked and been a good enough replacement for VTV. I need Sky Sport, and my wife likes some of the starter channels like TLC etc so it's easiest for us to keep Sky just with starter and sport.

Having to go to the TVNZ app to get to TVNZ channels takes a little getting used to (wife is not very technically minded) but no big deal. Main frustration so far is the fast forwarding. It would be easier if it had the preview windows like VTV had, and it's also very slow to fast forward - we were watching a Sky program from the guide which cut off before the end (it had been running late so the times didn't quite match), so found the episode on demand and it took what seemed like forever to fast forward to the point we were up to. Hopefully this is something that can be improved with an update.

One feature I'm missing from VTV is the 20 second skip forward or back. Made it easy if you had fast forward through ads a bit too far and I also used it all the time with sport (ie, to skip through an injury stoppage if trying to watch a game before work etc).

Anyone else getting constant buffering on the new sky pods for TV3? We have used VTV for years on 4G wifi and no issues with internet speed or capacity. Now it buffers every 30 seconds, and we are using fibre at our city place.

Anyone else experiencing the pod randomly changing channels? Really annoying.

Sounds like a fault in the equipment, unless you are possibly putting things down on the remote, and buttons are getting pushed, which has happened to me accidentally a couple of times.

Have had it once jump randomly into the menu when no one was touching the remote.

Most common one seems to be that when we change channels using the numbers, after a while it just stops working, and then you cnat even change channel by scrolling up and down. It just gets stuck. very annoying.

Its also a precarious position to time the button clicks and try and see whats on another channel before you lose the UI entirely and have to start again

Ha, the cat has been guilty once or twice, but no, no-one is anywhere near the remote when it jumps channels.

Had some problems with the remote but no pattern that I can discern. Never had it change channels while watching something but when scrolling through the EPG and stopping it sometimes jumps to main menu like you have pushed the Back button

Ive had Sky forever, but wow, this is a pure fail. MySkyHDi is here to stay. No, I'm not being nitpicky but between this and Sky Sport Now (judder judder) its a shocker. Im in IT Im well aware of teething issues, but...

I came here out of morbid curiosity to see what the Skynosaur is up to now. Honestly, the idea of a new set top box for Sky in the year 2023 is so strange, it gives me “buying a VHS” vibes. To each their own but I’m kind of shocked to find 43 pages of people talking about this shite and still paying coin to these guys.

I think you will find most of the people are Vodafone TV people who want to retain some Sky channels they previously got through VTV on Vodafone cable but do not want to install an Sky dish hence the only option is a Skypod.

so, please share how people can get a genuine streaming direct to tv service of similar channel selection and ease as sky, without resorting to diy solutions.

I don’t think people are in love with more boxes, but there isn’t an internet direct service accessible via device of customer choice available in NZ.

Currently paying around $35 plus GST each month to Sky for my Starter & Entertainment package...

I like to record the TV News at 6pm for the day's headlines and the weather forecast. I can then fast-forward through the boring bits (usually the adverts and most of the sport reporting).

With the Vodafone TV device this was possible without a satellite dish.

I haven't got the time or patience to read and understand the existing 43+ pages... what just want to know is... when will anyone provide a suitable recording device that doesn't need a dish?

Do you need to record it yourself?

TV1 news episodes are available for at least 3 days on the TVNZ+app. You can fast forward.

TV3 Newshub episodes ditto, on the 3Now app. It's clunky, but you can fast forward.

Prime News episodes ditto, in the Sky program list. You can fast forward.
