Just had a look at Prime News, it's not in HD but is a lot clearer than SD because of the upscaling.

Indeed it does look better than the SD Feed, here's a screenshot of a out of studio part and an in studio part from the HD channel (re-sized in Paint to 1920x1080 from 1440x1080)

What discussions do they really need with the broadcast partners? Surely its just a case of how much and here you go?

It's not that simple, for example on Freeview, changes to channels or any new channels will need to go through the Stakeholders which is TVNZ, Radio NZ, Mediaworks and Maori TV they need to sign things off individually which takes a long time as well as Korida having to deal with the actual switch from a SD Prime to an HD prime and letting people / viewers know that series links will be removed and a retune may need to happen on older DTT products (Mostly Channel PR and Freeview promotion)

Sommet Sports was an example with the Satellite rollout, the space was the issue but the Stakeholders needed to approve the move on tho DTH

From your experience Josh, realistically how long do you think this will take?

Josh, you may not have seen this question aimed at you a few pages back, but I would appreciate your opinion.

In terms of Prime's case, after the Rio Olympics, for a reason too, They may have the time to get things ticked off, but SKY wouldn't want to showcase the Olympics in 1080i HD for Freeview viewers, Have a look at the media statement) :-) Although in cases, I do hope I am proved wrong.

Crowd Goes Wild wasn't in native HD which was a surprise, as the Sky Sport replay later in the night is always in stunning HD.

Indeed it is, i've always waited for the replay late night on Sky ever since they started showing it. Shame it's upscaled on Prime HD, but they could still be sorting it out as i don't think it's officially launched until later this month iirc?

Cricket on the HD Channel is also an upscale.

Played back in VLC via DVBViewer's netstream plugin, Deinterlaced using Bob.

Yes still not sorted yet with their testing, If they decide to launch on the 14th with this quality, someone needs a kick up the backside. But lets see how this one rolls out

Yes I noticed this on Vodafone TV last night.  The upscale looks pretty bad... I hope this is not the result sky are going for.  Why not just broadcast the same HD version that was playing on Sky Sport.

I have just realised the situation with why it's not HD.

From Feb 1st Sky customers with the MySky and Vodafone TV has their Prime switched from the SD feeds to the HD version on a new transponder, all series links needed to be relinked on the new Prime channel.

Prime will remain up scaled on the HD version until the 14th where the native HD will be switched on and rebrand comes into effect. Then Prime will be renamed "Prime HD" on the EPG.

On the flip side it takes less space to record them, precious on a tinny My Sky storage.
