Lol. Ring them up and see what they say. Be nice but i'd be surprised if they agreed.

I got same deal, while ago i asked about upgrading silver to hdi and got told either $600 or $15 month rental.

James Bond:
rugrat: If you had silver one then they swaped for hdi, no monthly fee for box.

Hd ticket, credit just means you have multiroom.

I had the Silver and the basic one. I swapped the Basic one for the HDi and also kept the Silver so now I want to swap the Silver for the Sky+ box.

I'm in the same boat, paid $599 for the silver box and then paid $49 to get the black box as well.

On the phone to them as I type, they tell me I have to pay $149 and then $20/month to upgrade either of the boxes... it's so outrageous that I have asked to speak with his supervisor, so he is leaving me on indefinite hold...

Speaking to the supervisor and he confirms $649 to upgrade my myskyHDi to mySKY+

I've asked to speak with his boss... surely this must be wrong.... $650 to upgrade the HDD to a 1TB drive....

Oh wow...

So it's $149 + $20 p/m or $649 to upgrade the MySky silver box to Sky+?

An hour on the phone, and insisting on speaking with a team leader they finally offered to upgrade one of the boxes for $149 as a one off due to my excellent and long standing payment history.

I had to get stroppy and it took an age... anyone that pays $649 for the upgrade has too much money and not enough sense. I still can't believe that they seriously expect to be able to charge that sort of money... but apparently that is the case.

Wouldn't be surprised if they have to rethink that approach.

So it's $149 + $20 p/m or $649 to upgrade the MySky silver box to Sky+?

Correct - even if you have paid for them up front and don't currently pay a rental. More surprising is that the price is the same to upgrade the MySky black box to Sky+... all you get is a larger HDD for the money.

MySky HDi upgrade to the new + is $149 ( $50 for the box and $99 install ) per decoder if you paid $599 upfront the first time.

Not for me it wasn't... at least not without a fight.

I paid $599 upfront for MySky and then $49 to upgrade to MySkyHDi and kept the original MySky as Multiroom.

They insisted for over an hour and through two levels of support that it would cost $649 to upgrade each of the boxes.... so $1300 if I wanted to upgrade both!!!

My persistence in arguing with this ridiculous charge eventually got them to agree to charge $149 per box as a "one off" apparently due to my excellent payment history... more likely my persistent arguing skills...

We have MyskyHD black box and are interested in upgrading to the MySky+ for extra space. We paid outright for the first Mysky then upgraded to HD later, so arent renting.

What Im wondering is if we will be able to hang on to the MyskyHD box for say 3 weeks so we can watch whats recorded on it before handing it in? I'll ask Sky soon but thought I would ask here if anyones heard of options for this or are in the same position?

I thought it would be fairly common as the reason we want to upgrade to Mysky+ is beause the MyskyHD box is always nearly full, so just swapping them isnt an option as then we have many unwatched episodes on the MyskyHD box!

I often wonder why we need a larger reording device.  Most of the Sky programmes and films are repeated may times over. It is of interest to note that most of my recorded programmes are on the freeview lists.  If it wasnt for sport I really wonder why I have sky.

You could go Multiroom for a short period of time, have no idea of the cost or minumum contract though

Yes I had the exact same story and result. I told them I was told that with my Multiroom I could upgrade my silver decoder to the + decoder and keep the HDi for $149. The eventually agreed, but that is 30+ minutes of my life on hold I wont get back, at least I was at work at the time...

Everyone's a different use case I guess. Where we are we cant get Freeview HD, nor any UHF channels like Prime etc. So we have Sky for HD TV1,2,3 and Prime, and the kids channels. We've got into the habit of recording everything so can watch what we like whenever. However with 4 people in the house with very different tastes you can perhaps see how storage space can become a problem ... especially if we go away on holiday for a couple of weeks!

yes, or if you are like me you record everything you would like to watch when there are not enough hours in the day to watch them all

Our install is booked for next Saturday and confirmed as a one off cost of $149 for each of our decoders. That is the same cost they quoted me a couple of hours after the announcement was made of the new + boxes on the internet when I rung up to register my interest a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like you struck a bad staff shift at Sky maybe.
