So over the past little while, Sky has dramatically changed Food TV for the worse. It's now even more full of ads, and whilst most of them are actually other Sky broadcast related and it doesn't bother me too much the have reduced the amount of variety and removed a lot of the previously Kiwi content.

I had a few conversations via email with Discovery Australia who are now responsible for FoodTV, and were told things weren't going to improve.

As Food TV is one of only 3 channels we semi-regularly watch on Sky and I felt it had dropped considerably in quality and I also wanted to know if HD was coming soon, I contacted the CEO of Sky.

I was surprised he actually replied back to me. He seems to share my enjoyment of Food TV and whilst not willing to concede much, he did go to some lengths to talk about the flip side of the decisions that had been made.

I still don't like the new direction, but happy enough he took the time out to contact me back directly.

You really believe that John Fellet wrote that reply? Next you'll tell me that Santa Clause puts presents under your Xmas tree. :P

I have contacted him a couple of times in the past few years. When it's not from him, I get a reply from a different person saying JF asked them to reply on his behalf.

His reply stated that he replied personally, I have no reason to disbelieve that. You are welcome to whatever you wish to believe.

You might also be interested to know that I have conversed directly with Amazon's CEO (as well as people he has asked to reply on his behalf), and Rob Fyfe (Prior CEO to Air NZ) both in person and via email on multiple occasions.

You'll find that most big companies have very specific ways of handling CEO emails, but in this day and age, it won't state it comes from the CEO, unless he wrote it himself, or dictated it for someone else to write, which is tantamount to the same thing as far as I am concerned.

You are going to end up walking around in circles with that chip on your shoulder.

RE: Food TV and Living channels

They have been running on Intelsat 19 Cband since last year. If you really want them , a suitable dish and certain decoder that have certain capabilitys will enable viewing.

Yep, busy.

I called to cancel my service this morning. Probably about half an hour on hold in total.

I heard they are also busy taking new subscriptions.

Will be interesting to see what next financial reports look like. Subscriber numbers could be stable or maybe rise, but profits are likely to tank given their return per customer will drop in some cases, however, the broadcast costs wouldn't drop i don't think.

The stuff in the second tier that was included in basic previously probably isn't subscriber based billing from the suppliers I'd imagine.

Yeah, I'd been wondering that. They will lose for those that downgraded and had no intention of cancelling, they will win by stopping some cancels, and also gaining new subscribers. Fellett said they didn't know what the outcome will be, but I feel at worst they will end up with a stable subscriber base. The next step is adding value, such as free Multiroom for a small one off charge, plus subscriber sorts out the cabling, or find a way to block borrowed SkyGo logins, then they can put more or everything on an app, that would be excellent value added. But they need to find a way to keep the app for subscriber use only. That's probably a toughie. Sky anywhere in your home or on the run, that would be excellent

2FA on the app would drop piracy rates significantly I'd imagine. More content on the App, App being stable, App being able to used anywhere so long as 2FA enabled.

I thought that what comes next revolves around collaboration with Cisco and the next decoder release (will replace the mySky and be 4K capable with a DLNA server?? and/or at least a cloud based streaming service??). Fellet was indicating that this new device was a year away, my guess is at least in time for 2020 Olympics (in 4K).

Could I borrow yours, you text me the code and I add that?  Yes, that would stop a few but I'm sure friends would cooperate!

Every time they login? They might if it was a one off, but not likely every day.
