Maybe I'm missing something but why would Sky want you let you add apps like Netflix, Neon, Disney etc? Would have thought they regard those streaming services as competition.

Just have a look at the Foxtel IQ boxes in Australia. People want convenience, by providing all of those competing streaming services as well as FTA catch up services you offer a very compelling proposition to keep people that otherwise might have ditched your service in favour of streaming only.

Yay - remote has a back button. Something that completely forgotten by Vodafone TV!

I'm hoping the remote doesn't rely on line-of-sight IR, because mine will be gong straight in a cupboard, if it's white...

Won't look good in the rack either.

There are numbers on the remote, so I hope they provide a dumbed-down option with direct channel selection. That's more convenient than an app for many users.

Our current decoder seems to be failing, needing the occasional reboot. With DVB becoming a second class citizen, we'll probably see more recycling of equipment and more hardware issues like we did during the final days of their analogue service. Being left with their 'smart' solution as the only viable option will force us off the platform.

Apparently it was "voted" by Sky customers. 🤷

Pretty much irrelevant now but VTV remote does have a back button.

Looks like no colour choice - otherwise they wouldn’t have need the vote.

Since the remote has a microphone, it will almost certainly be Bluetooth based.

”The new remote control is also both Infrared and Bluetooth Low Energy capable – no line of sight is required via Bluetooth, providing an improved customer experience.”

Only Aucklanders it seems :(

TALENT: We are looking for Sky Customers to let us film them in their homes as
they “unbox” the new Sky Box - plug it in and have a play with it for the first time.

We are looking for a wide range of people who are excited to try the new Sky Box
and to do a trial period with the product.
Families | Couples | Individuals | Flatmates | Grandparents

*Acting experience is not essential to participate in this project.*

We will have a small documentary crew filming and we’ll be hoping to catch
authentic reactions as you are “wowed” by all the awesome features the new Sky
Box has to offer. Filming will take less than half a day.

APPLY: If this sounds like you or someone you know and are keen to take part, please
can you send us a self-taped video (from mobile phone/webcam) of You/Your
family/Your Household all introducing yourselves to camera from your lounge or
where you watch TV.
- Each person introduce themselves
- Tell us why you are excited to try the new Sky Box.
- What do you like to watch on Sky the most?
- Do you use streaming services like Sky Go, Netflix, Sky Sport Now?

Please get in touch with your details, Sky account # and your self-tape video file to
creative@sky.co.nz -- Applications close Sunday 22 May 2022 --

SHOOT Dates: Must be available to film in Auckland between Monday 13 June –
Sunday 26 June, 2022 (exact shoot day TBC)
If selected, you’ll receive $1,000^ Sky account credit, plus you will be able to
participate in our customer trial and be one of the the first to get their hands on the
New Sky Box, which will be provided free. *Your Sky monthly subscription fees will
still apply.

However, if they are shooting at the end of June, and that is still part of the customer trial, then it looks like general release won't be till later in the year.

Clint
