MarkCerny: So watching tv on the new Sky satellite box.

The audio is definitely out of sync with the picture.

There is also a freeze when you change the channel.

Is this happening for everyone else?
We have been using the new box since the end of February and have not had any of those problems.

I have not had the out of sync audio problems, but definitely get a small picture freeze when changing channels..

Manuals are accessible online, so is RNZ national if you install the app or stream it is on.

The Sky Pod and New Sky Box are Android based TV set top boxes, specifically the Sky Pod is a Google Chromecast with GoogleTV.

I'm not sure if you are talking anything rational when you claim to "need a new TV".

I would suggest that you can use the digital audio out to connect to your tuner by fibre optic.

I do have a digital audio

Will try and find manual  - well hidden

When I tried to install RNZN it said incompatible

Wrong.

The skypod is not a Google chromecast with Google tv.

It's an oem android certified device that functions like a Chromecast, but will probably never be updated to new version of Android. Unlike the official device.

Fine. Lets not get into pedantry over wording, unless and until you have proof that what you're claiming is correct about no updates to the Android system.

This is due to the composition of the atmosphere, which is something difficult to change, but not impossible.

However, the discussion of my climate change solution is merely an engineering issue not on this topic.

You can stream sky channels on Sky Go, which is possible either on a computer, or in the iOS/iPadOS or Android phone and tablet apps.

Casting the Sky Go App now to the Sky box. This just seems so backwards!

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yes it is, but there's a certain geek(zone) factor in casting sky stuff from their phone app to their sky hardware to watch on a tv...

you may be right but i have had more Rain fade on the new box in the 2 weeks  than i did in 6 months with the old box. it would have to be belting down to get rain fade in the past. Now just the threat of rain will make it throw a fit.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Can't find manual - could you show a link, please? I can't install a RNZ app to my Panasonic, non-android. It took ages for Panasonic to have new firmware to fix Spark Sport. I'd have to buy a new tv with Android smart ware.

I'd like to uninstall all those apps that I'll never use, they are such bloatware.

When I try to download a streaming app all I get is

This suggests the RF front-end of the new box may not be as sensitive as the old Pace or Kaon boxes.

That being the case it does not bode well for those of us with a long cable run between the LNB and the new box should we get one and then find we can't watch anything on sky when the cloud thickens overhead.

I think what the suggestion is to install the RNZ app onto your new Sky Box / Sky Pod which (clunky as it may be) IS android based.

There might be a better way, but:

  • Open the stream.
  • Fast forward to the credits or thereabouts.
  • Press play again.

My understanding is that the encoding in the stream which tells the player that it has been watched is usually near the start of the credits.

Of course that will probably then start giving you suggestions 'because you watched...." or "watch again..."
