voy1d: It already uses the Neulion platform.

I know that.  That's why I got the quote from their site.

voy1d: Sky obviously havn't paid for those delivery methods.

That was the point of my question.... so they don't deliver via all the quoted methods then - ok.

Jesus H Christ.

Neulion offer those as options on top of their standard product which is live streaming.

Sky TV have not taken those options and actually if you LOOK at the Fanpass website they make no mention of Smart TV's / Gaming consoles.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It’s really simple. You can watch everything on the FAN PASS website or download the app through the App Store or Google Play™ to watch on your phone or tablet. As long as you’ve got an internet connection you can watch as much Super Rugby, NRL or F1® as you want on selected mobiles, tablets and on PC/Mac. You can also watch on your TV with AirPlay, by mirroring from your Android™ device or using an HDMI cable, if you have a compatible device.

So Neulion do deliver through those methods, the customer (I.E. Sky) needs to pony up the cash for Neulion to release the app for them.

This will make you think, what if Sky put a Freeview+ app (HBBTV) on Prime TV that allowed access to FAN Pass 2...

The Fan Pass website states:-

Will there be a chance to try out FAN PASS before I buy?

You can register at fanpass.co.nz and try the sample highlights available. There is no associated cost with this. Once you've registered you'll be able to purchase a pass if you choose to.

I must be going blind, but I can't find these sample highlights anywhere. Has anyone else been able to locate them?

That's a concern. Now I'm wondering if I really do want to throw away $15 to test a service that won't actually work.

What setup are you using? And were you watching live content or a replay?

Any other users experiencing the same?

Same for me. Was okayish when watching 1stXV rugby then unwatchable. Trying to chat with them now. No response. I tried replays of the league. They stuttered quality was generally poorer than a wiziwig.tv stream. Really disappointed. Tried NFL gamepass (as it's neulion) no problems. Straight to HD. I'm just assuming Sky are on the most budget package. But really I can't see why Neulion would even have their name on it.

I'm surprised no-one has done a video of the service running side by side onscreen with a a good quality stream (like something from Lightbox - or Netflix I guess :-) and posted that to youtube. Personally I still can't find the free demo streams they claim exist and I'm not paying for it having been burnt many times relying on Skygo.

(admittedly the one time I paid for a Fanpass weekend of F1 the quality was watchable - it was NOT good, but it was watchable)

Cheers - N

Sucks to hear..
But then I can kick myself for believing that Sky could possibly have done any better.

So off to the pub tomorrow at 6.30pm

Edit: Killerkiwi2005, are you sure it was not your unblocking DNS servers that were interfering with the service? Did you try watching with a local DNS setup?

I've been looking for these demo streams too. If they do actually exist (I asked Sky on Twitter), I'll post their location here. I also suspect they will only be available via their website. Ideally I'd like to have them available in the iOS app, so I can test how well AirPlay works, as that's how I'd be using their service.

After the feedback here, getting a wee bit nervous about ponying up $15 to try it this weekend. But I may just be stubborn* enough to do it anyway :-)

*Stubborn, stupid, insane. They're all synonyms in this context, right? ;-)

I would be very keen to see a side by side comparison of Fan Pass (which is advertised as Live), and Sky via satellite.
What do you guys think the delays will be like? Couple of minutes? A couple of seconds?

Yeah DNS was set to NZ, I assume its the load from so many people testing the service last night as it is working ok now, but that dosnt bode well for all black games

Well I now have a week to test the service (Sky sport 1-4 week pass) for free.... never thought I would say this, but "Thanks Sky"

Will be interesting to see how it holds up on sat night.
I use amazon Prime, Netflix and lightbox all without any streaming issue in HD.

Hope this can live up to my expectations haha, SkyGo on the Lounge TV used to look horrible and fail more than it worked, so looking forward to testing it.
