My programing knowledge is nil. Can someone with the necessary skills explain why it would take so long to sort out the recording problems. Otherwise I am reasonably happy with the

new sky box.

It's more likely a rainfade issue than anything to do with programming.

I would suggest that we will all find out during this current batch of bad weather this weekend if the recordings interrupt in this manner.

My wife is probably recording something overnight, so I'll check it out later on.

This rain-fade thing, only ever had any disruption in less than a handful since the first MySky boxes were started.

Is the fade caused by the transmission end or the receiving end? We had tremendous rain this evening in Hamilton and no issues watching the Chiefs v Hurricanes.

Biggest problem was fast-forwarding at half time and managing to go back to the recorded session.

I think it's probably because my dish is very old, or at least very rusty.

I got my dish replaced last week, it was 25 years old with rusted brackets etc, I asked them to replace it and they tried to charge me $90 and told them I'm not paying that then offered it to me for $50 and NO again, I told them it's your respondisibility to maintain it and gave in so it was done for free.

Okay, so I have just finished reading all 82 pages. I received the new Sky box back in April and was looking forward to it - I always love shiny new things.  What a complete disappointment! I have not had a lot of the technical faults mentioned here, but the user interface is a nightmare. I have frequently deleted programmes that I wanted to keep because it bounces back to the first on the list after pressing delete, or I delete a whole bunch (because series link has recorded every possible variation) and then I forget that I haven’t exited delete mode and press the centre button to watch the one episode that I kept, only to have it deleted in front of my eyes. My fault I know, but easy to do.  I also miss remote record which I used all the time. No slow motion so how can I confirm the referee’s bias or incompetency anymore? It is hard to tell which of the thumbnails have new episodes without moving the cursor to them. I have to be very careful when using the cursor control to not stray off to an adjacent button etc.

A few days into this I contacted Sky call centre and said that I would like to return the box and get my $150 credited back.  They told me that I could return the box but there are no credits. Apparently it is in the T&C’s.  I went looking for this information. No mention in the few emails I received about the new box. No mention in the “Good News click here to order email”. No mention on the actual order page. No mention on the T’s & C’s page, but there was a link to another T’s & C’s page that had a very vague and historic looking reference to Sky not offering refunds, this did not mention the new Sky Box specifically and seemed to be from several years ago. I really did not expect to lose functionality when upgrading to the new box, but neither the old one nor the new one are going back to Sky until they agree to the credit. Sadly their call centre people have to listen to my increasing anger, when there is nothing they can do about it. This product is so undercooked I think it is still partially frozen.

I think you have a case with the consumer guarantees act. A product has to be fit for the purpose it is sold for. If you have problems getting a refund for the Sky Box I am sure Fair Go would be interested.

Have generally been happy with the Pod but since yesterday having a weird issue with the sound syncing not matching the picture only on the TLC channel. Makes it unnerving watching with the sound not in sync with the mouth taking. Anyone else had this and found a way to resolve it? Weird that it only appears to affect one channel (and typically the main channel my wife watches).

Yes, we have this quite a lot on all apps, the fix normally is to turn the Pod off with the controller and wait 30 sec and then turn it back on..  Apparently it's a feature  // sarc

Is the Pod only available to VFTV customers that were also subscribed to Sky at the time? I was looking to get the Pod, (Had VFTV but not Sky) I’m sure I remember registering for it before VFTV shutdown but haven’t had any comms since.

Sky subscribers on VTV got preference over non Sky VTV subscribers. An effort to retain Sky subscribers I presume.

I am a VFTV customer who purchased a VFTV but did not subscribe to Sky TV and also had no communications from Sky on ordering. I have purchased a Sky Pod by phoning Sky at 0800 759 190 and I believe you can still order there if you were a VFTV customer and you really want one. However I am looking at returning my Sky Pod due to the poor interface and the lack of TV1, TV2 and Duke channels on the TV Guide.

I have instead as an alternative to the SkyPod setup the Sparkle TV app using Matt Huisman's M3U8 NZ TV Channel Playlist ,on Google TV with Chromecast 4K paired with the Vodafone TV remote which gives the ability to control and view all Freeview channels plus others and timeshift (pause and rewind/fast forward live TV), or record them on a USB drive connected via a USB C Hub, with USB A and Ethernet OTG, or to a SMB share on a Windows machine. This is at a one off cost of about $151 to $187. Rather than a one off fee to Sky of $100 plus $25 per month. The only disadvantage to this option is not being able to replay some programs for up to 72 hours from a guide however TVNZ+ and TV3 Apps allow replay of most programs and Sparkle TV provides the ability to record all non Sky only programs. Google TV also has the ability of installing these apps: TVNZ+, Three Now, Disney+, Neon, You Tube, Spotify, Sky Sport Now, and Prime Video amongst others and comes with You Tube and Apple TV, plus the Netflix App which is available on the SkyPod. Note: Apple TV is not available on the Sky Pod even to add.

I have also used the Button Mapper App to map the four colured buttons  on the Vodafone TV remote to up to three commonly used Apps per button, including Sparkle TV, and the menu button to the Home Action, giving a better remote than the Sky Pod's remote, or the Google TV remote.

I have given Sky over a month to add TVNZ 1, TVNZ 2, and Duke to their Guide but I believe it is now time to take a stand, due to their inability to meet the requirements of the consumer guarantees act and provide the channels in the Guide that they advertised Sky Pod provided through Sky Starter, when I ordered my Sky Pod.

The only plus I can see to the Sky Pod is the ability to view Sky Channels including Sky Sport and replay some programs for up to 72 hours from the Sky TV Guide, but Sky Sport is available on Google TV via the Sky  Sport Now app at a subscription when required. Sky would have been better off creating a Sky Channels App for Android including Google TV rather than coming out with the Sky Pod although it is better than the Sky Box due to lack of rain fade or Sky Box User Interface and recording problems, except for the lack of ability to record Sky channels although this may be able to be provided for non Sky channels by installing the Sparkle TV app on the Sky Pod.

i do this all the time and one last thing it does that really annoys me  is the recorded program going back to the start for no reason so that the IPL match i am 2 hours in restarts and i have to fast forward 2 hours to get back to where i was.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Tried that but hasn't sorted it. Weird that it's only one channel and not any app or other channel which makes me wonder if there's some issue at their end rather than my device. Would anyone else with the Pod mind checking if they get the same issue on TLC?

The only issue I am battling with the new Sky Box is that I can only pair one remote at a time, so having extra remotes in the other rooms are not an option.

Remote lag is another issue and FF x64 is slow!!

Otherwise I am overall happy with everything else, cough!!
