He just rang up to see if he could get a deal on sports so he could watch the rugby and asked for a deal on sport .

They recently raised the price of the Sport package by $5, from $42 to $47 which gave a lot of people a reason to think (42 just sounds a lot lower, 47 is so close to 50).
Especially if you're already paying $26 for Sky Starter and $15 for My Sky recording feature, two things that really shouldn't be charged for separately. Seeing $47 for Sport on top of that would've made a lot of people want to call up, maybe to cancel Sport.
And it seems like they have a good deal ready for such callers, and seem to be offering it to people who didn't already have Sport as well.

He keeps it only as a recorder, tried Apple TV, other recorders. The Sky one is just so easy to use . Gets rugby on for ab season then cancels . He’s pretty happy he got the deal
Workmate made a comment today they were cold called by Sky offering 50% off for 12 months, free Sky Pod or Satellite box too (they are a former sky customer)
Interesting, I've been a former Sky customer for a number of years and never got a call like that 😕
I've been an extension subscriber for about 6 months and last month got an email with the 50% offer. However I have signed up for SSN and don't need it, although the offer doesn't end until end of September.
Well another 12 months is up on 11/10/25 and my bill shot up from $67.90 to $89 for Sport, Starter and Mysky with my black box. I had a 15% discount for 12 months previously so called them this morning, same discount and plan again but cost is up $4 a month to $71.90 (sport price increase).
Easy phone call with the Auckland team and all over and done with in 4 mins. I must say Sky's phone customer service is better than ever.

Well to add to the above, Sky just called me back and offered me fibre everyday (500mb down/100up) same as I'm currently on with Contact for $15 a month less for 12 months. That takes care of the Higher sky price haha

I'm over SSN and won't be renewing it. The compressed video quality is not that great and the look-back window of past material in the program guide is very short. In fact it is annoying that the program guide goes back weeks but anything that is more than a day old can't be played.
If I saw a really good deal on a streaming product like SkyGo that didn't also need a dish on the roof I would consider it.

This is me. If SkyGO were the same as the SSN app and available on TV and phone, with no dish, I would be in.

On saturday Sky sent me an email regarding the new connection. Lo and behold the price quoted hasn't increased and turns out they are giving me 12 months at the old price of $67.90.
Very Happy!

Can't believe it's nearly the end of 2025 and this type of conversation is still ongoing re Sky streaming.
It'll be the same in 2030 too. They see too much profit from the status quo to change. They want the friction caused by the SkyGo phone app, by us needing to cast to TV to use it.
SkyGo content is now also available through the new white sky box (requires satellite), and the new sky pod (a chromecast-like dongle requiring internet). But, in both cases you have to be a normal Sky subscriber paying (before any discounts) $26 a month for Sky Starter (covers all channels you'll never watch), and if you want the recording function then an extra $15. That's before paying for the channels you actually will watch ($47 for Sport, $28 for Entertainment, $20 for Movies, etc).
They want people on the boxes and pods, not on a TV app, and needing to pay $26 for Starter, and sometimes paying $15 for recording too. I think this is why they consistently offer deals to people like us who call up - they know they're being ridiculously sneaky and understand where we're coming from.
Also, they probably realise the SkyGo app is mostly used by family members not living in the main Sky household, another reason not to make the SkyGo experience better.
Something to keep an eye on for later this week Black Friday | Sky's Biggest Offer of the Year is Coming Soon
