I have signed up and find the quality is very poor. I am getting stuttering in the sound. I have tried all the obvious things. I am on fibre and getting a great speed but still the sound is rough. Have tried several episodes of Modern Family and they are all the same. Will go try something else.
Couple of points, I was hoping this would be a better replacement for Quickflix but it appears that Lightbox only deals with TV programems no movies. If Lightbox only do TV then I will stay with Quickflix.
Secondly I am disappointed with having to run Silverlight. This means that it is pretty much relegated to Microsoft and Apple products. I dont know if Moonlight for Linux is still available or if its been done away with.
If other streaming sources can survive without Silverlight then Lightbox should do the same

Meanwhile has anyone else finding quality of sound bad?

They've only just launched and I bet they've got a bunch of signups already, give them a break to sort out the few teething issues :)

I found it totally fine on my trial.

I was wondering about that but one would think their CDN would be able to handle the ones that were added tonight. I will see how it goes. Am I right in there are only TV programs going to be available?

I also found it was sweet by the end of the beta trial. Have signed up again tonight, but not viewed anything yet. Will have a look later (during daylight hours) and see what differs. Have noticed there's at least one program missing that was there in the beta. Hopefully that's going to be fixed quickly.

It's supposed to work on Linux if you use Pipelight.

Hi ronw,

Sounds like an issue with either your connection or your setup - our CDN isn't falling over anytime soon. Do get in touch with our support staff if your problem persists.

Silverlight is one of the mature and well established technologies for distributing video over the internet. None of the alternatives look better at this stage in time. If there was a better way, we'd be stupid not to do that instead...

Lightbox is great TV, so no movies (for now anyway).

I'll also advice you to disable any VPN/DNS services you may be running, as they may be throwing your streams across the Pacific and back again and can impact your performance.

As above, make sure you are using your ISP' DNS, no VPN. And make sure you test it over Ethernet, not WiFi.

Is this a service that works on the Apple TV?   Am a bit perplexed why the need (as mentioned above) for Silverlight to be installed.

No, not directly. As mentioned often in the main discussion on Lightbox, developing for Apple TV is apparently an invite only service and they haven't been invited.

Silverlight needs to be installed as that is the method of delivery.

At least you can use Lightbox with an iPad. Only option for everyone else pretty much involves a PC.

Sounds like it is using a Microsoft Media server as the back end. Wonder if it is the Azure Media Services.

Hi,

I have a very up to date PC and sometimes I do get that stutter on any streaming I use sometimes prolly because I don't turn off my PC and only restart it as needed just like when that happens. Stuttering never happened to me on lightbox bu on crunchyroll (an anime streaming service) and this only happens to my win8.1 not my win7 bootcamp lappy(macbookpro 15" ret). Not sure what is causing it yet but my restart seems to fix it.

Good luck though. Let me know if you resolve it.

You know quickflix was silverlight too right?

Tried it today from work and it was good, will try tonight from home and see how it goes. The beta was fine, so I am guessing it will be ok too.
Anyways, bring on an xbox client and I will be totally stoked.
