The new ads are rolling out on SKY channels, anyone seen them?

Standard boxes to be replaced in a few months over Summer.

I feel they will get these out pronto. Post RWC they will see a spike in churn, less I feel than many here feel. As SVOD gets more traction, Sky need to add value, the box will help that, reduce costs, and reduce prices.

Hard to get excited about out-dated Pay TV hardware. It's the past.

Me too. As someone else said, Sky is good value if you have the use case. I love the docs, sport, HD, recording convenience, kids loved the kids channels, Animal Planet was a biggie for her. Wife loves the food channels.  But now, i am the only user it seems, daughter uses Netflix, wife doesnt watch food channel anymore, I have options for F1 and MotoGP if need be. Sky has RWC on Prime. Lightbox. Netflix. Im about to remove MySkyHDi box, and a Panny BR/HDD Freeview recorder, and replace that with a T2200. Ask wife if she prefers Panny in bedroom instead of the Tivo that forgets stuff from time to time. PS4 has LB/NF, so will my upcoming Apple TV4 hopefully soon. Saving circa $80 per month, freeing up one HT HDMI

But I don't see the churn hitting big time yet for Sky. If NF/LB advertised heavily, this is how easy and cheap it is, then maybe

Pay TV is actually the future, not the past. Hardware wise, on demand capable hardware is also the future, see Dish T2200 and the other FV+ boxes, and Skys upcoming box.

What would change things, and bring SVOD 5 years ahead, is that there was an SVOD app store for all major brands that was more universal, so that any local dev can write a local SVOD app, for any TV, Smart box, so that anyone can have a one box solution for FV+, Ondemand, Netflix, Lightbox, Neon, etc. The thing that holds the general customer back is complexity. Its too hard, too geeky, too many boxes/solutions required.

Pay tv will be the future.

But that future might just be that the actual content providers decide to sell directly to customers rather than to intermediates like sky.

I didn't say Pay TV was the past. I said out-dated Pay TV hardware was the past. These boxes being discussed here, they're not the future. Not even close.

I get all of that, except for the bit about replacing the Panny box with the T2200. As a Panny owner contemplating restructuring his setup, I'm curious as to why - is it just the Freeview+ functionality or is there something I'm missing?
