Hi Guys

We have a sales lead who has called us complaining about his current broadband provider and wants to switch over to us. Normally I would be happy to accept a new subscriber, but his reason he is unhappy with his broadband provider is weird.

The issue is that sky constantly has picture problems....

He seems to think he is streaming, but from memory, when I personally had sky, the half picture blockyness was a satelite signal. I dont think its a streaming issue. I dont even know if sky sport 2 could be streamed online?

I cant get him to clearly explain to me how his media system is set up so I am not sure if i want to take on the customer and then have him disappointed that his issue is not fixed.

If it's DVB-S with a borderline signal you can get similar sort of things. There would generally be a predictable pattern to it though, so temperature related / rain / wind / specific channels (transponders).

Could also be watching via VodaTV / Sky Go / Fanpass though.

He is probably using one of those My Box devices. And probably doesn't know that he is watching a pirated stream.

It looks like low res sky go, feed to a tv set then set to fill the screen. The corruption just look like any other type of mpg2 video disrutption the same as you would see on satellite.

He sent me a photo of his sky decoder - its a mysky HDi box.

However the remote is a bose brand - which means if we take this guy on as a customer, we are going to be the first point of call for every single problem he has. It also explains his inability to understand the difference between internet streaming and satellite.

Thanks @apsattv for confirming it does look like satelite interference, I'll tell him we cant solve the issue unless he gets our recommended home theatre guy out first to look at the signal issues so we can deflect being the first point of call.

The Responsibilty for the issue lays with SKY most like their dish needs a tweak or a new LNBF

Could it be cellular interferance with the L band from the dish? Have seen some of the rural wireless installs put antennas stupidly close to other gear on the roof.

Tell him to disconnect his broadband connection. If the picture stays then he isn't streaming and has signal problems.

Maybe take him on, and covertly send the satellite guy out to align it.... But as implied, all of a sudden you own everything TV and internet from here on.

I don't see what the problem is , tell them to phone sky and sky will send out a tech to fix it.
