I have Sky wihch costs me $74/month but the quailty we view from our full hd sony w series tv(brand new) is really poor....i have a standard sky box not myskyHD, im not planning on paying $600 for myskyhd or adding extra $14/month, but i was wondering if there is a new sky box that has hdmi capablilty so that i could watch sky in high definition. I don't know anything about sky but would really want to view shows in High definition.....without futher costs.

If there isn't anything like that, then i guess its goodbye sky?

If you want HD you need MySkyHDi.

No HDi, no HD. Don't expect this to change any time soon either.

If you haven't already, get a SCART to Component lead from Sky, as this will give you a better picture than the standard Composite leads they issue. Sky charge around $20 for the lead.

Similar to HD: No

Sharper: Somewhat.

You can get them elsewhere but you are likely to pay more. You can get them for around $15.00 on Trade Me, but by the time you add shipping cost on you might as well get it from Sky.

The cheapest one I can find on the Dick Smith website is $99.00

I got a 1.8m Belkin scart to component (+stereo audio) cable from Ascent for around $50 (here).  Still not as cheap as adamj's indicated price for one from Sky themselves though, but significantly cheaper than Dick Smith's, and the Ascent price includes postage.

the screen size is 40" wide screen, my previous tv was a 21" flat screen which showd much clearer sky.

Jaycar do (or did last time I looked) a scart to component cable for around $20. Before buying one though check your decoder can output component. The older ones can't. Just go into the menu for setting the output and see if component is an option (alternatively ask sky). If they have to swap the box it will cost you a call out fee but they wil supply the cable.

Basically the bigger the screen the worse sky's crappy compressed signal will look. The big screen just magnifyies the crap. However component is the best you will get. Remember even with MyskyHDi only some channels and content is HD. The rest is just the rubbish you are currently getting. Having said that sport in HD on my 65" screen is fantastic!

When we changed to component I thought it made the picture worse.  It made the deficiencies more obvious.  Movies looked great, but the filler channels were awful.

WTV Sky?

Edit: Oh, World TV?  I wouldn't be confident about improving the quality of those channels, but I've never seen them so maybe someone else can comment...
