Hi, I looked in the old blog about Motorola launched GSM/CDMA mobile phone. So wonder.. if it is in NZ yet? Or whether other brands have something similar.

I currently carrying 2 phones 027 for personal and 021 for work. If I can get a hand on this GSM/CDMA phone.. it would be nice.

Please, if any geeks here know anything about it..

By the way, I am sorry if I put this in a wrong Forum.. not sure which one it should go to.

And also.. if there is a phone I can save SMS on to an SD card where I can re read it on a computer, I would love to know. HTC Harrier doesn't work that way

Telecom have a dual mode CDMA/GSM phone, the Samsung W531. But it is SIM locked to O2 (their roaming partner)

That is the only one that seems to be on the market. However according to Telecom there are more on the way

I also found this review in iStart by Mauricio on Falcon. Could you tell me if I can backup SMS onto SD card and still be viewable or readable by other application? I mean, if I can save SMS onto my computer and still be able to view it on the PC. Or is there a function that I can email out the SMS. I saw on Tony Hughes' blog that his friend is writing a software for WM5, it would be nice if there is something similar to that on the Falcon.

I saw on a seller on Trademe, claims, has both 021 and 027 number on his Apache. So I guess Falcon may behave the same way?

You should read the original HTC Falcon review here on Geekzone instead...

There's no function to save the SMS to SD card. There are some programs that can backup to your PC, but only that application will read the file. There's no cross functionality between SMS and e-mail - and in no mobile that I know off.

As for some software for the Falcon, remember this model is out of line for a few years now, and uses an old operating system. Anything written for Windows Mobile 5.0 might not run on this old hardware/software combination.

If someone says they have both 021 and 027 numbers on the Apache it may be that it has ported his number from Vodafone New Zealand to Telecom New Zealand. But the Apache is a CDMA phone and can only be connected to CDMA networks. If the device is sold on Trademe I doubt it will go with the number, meaning that you have to first connect to Telecom anyway.

Perhaps the important part for me at the moment is a way to save my SMS somewhere that I can review it later with other application. Apache sounds very good. But I still am not very sure about backing up SMS on the SD card. HTC Harrier is not at all capable of doing that. And finally my Harrier committed suicide by jumping off my pocket and landed in a pond of sea water. My current 027 phone is a very small version.. A920. Perhaps a good thing about it is I can email my SMS out. But I still miss being about to use PDA for other things.

I'm pretty much fishing around for the best solution for my current situation. Telecom just contact me re the contract expiring.. that they want to offer a new phone free of charge. So I want to be sure that the one I'm going for is capable of doing things that make my life easier.. unlike Harrier.

You can't save the SMS to SD card on any Windows Mobile device. You best option is to use something like Jeyo Mobile to save to your PC.

AFAIK, rumours are the Apach is entering end of life, but I haven't heard of any PDA replacement for it, yet...

The Apache is a huge, thick brick of a thing and now is very old..., I sure hope the replacement is slimmer..

The Apache is not number portability capable, so this is not possible.

From the look of it..

Seems it is thicker than Apache. But if it does the job of what I am looking for.. that I have to go for it.

So far, only thing I can do is to forward all of my SMS to my friend, and she will SMS from her phone to my email address.
