Well, we'll just have to wait and see if Nokia announce a delay again. A little embarrassing in my opinion. You only want to announce a delay once.

Well.

Talk about confusion!

I wish Nokia would release a definitive date they are going to release this device, as it seems every blogger, every online store, every person has their own guess as to the release date...

A reliable source received an email from Nokia to call and re-confirm his pre-order, after such a long wait...
So he called Nokia, but found out they had already canceled his pre-order...
So...he re-submitted his pre-order, no issues there, and at that time, was informed the Nokia N900 will ship on the 9th of November!

So...long story short....9th of November now?
I've given up trying to figure it out...will just wait to I see/read reports of people receiving it.

I will be very happy if 9th November is the case though.

Likewise I've stopped torturing myself with conjecture. It'll arrive when it arrives, and hopefully a better handset because of the delays.

I'm wondering though whether delaying it until after the official announcement of the SE X3 (or X10, no ones quite sure what the name will end up as) is a colossal mistake...

Yup, agree.

The X10, certainly has features that people want in a new, top-of-the-range handset...
- Capacitive 4.0 inch touchscreen, 854 x 480 pixels
- 32GB storage
- 8MP camera
- 1GHz Snapdragon processor
- Android OS
- Plus all the usuals

What is the X10 missing?
- Psychical keyboard
- HD video recording
- Divx/avi codec support
- Hardware graphics processor

The N900 does all that, although not quite HD video recording, WVGA(848 x 480)@25fps, better than previous or the X10 though.
That said, all the details of the device are not released yet so it may actually support some of those missing features.

On specs alone you would think the X10 easily kicks butt, but the psychical keyboard is a big selling point, as is Maemo...only wish Nokia would stick that 1GHz Snapdragon, capacitive screen and their 8MP shooter in the N900!

There also seems to be alot of buzz surrounding the Motorola Droid...personally I think its hideous.

I quite like the Droid to be honest, but I'll likely pass on it at the end of the day.

The X10 should be able to play DivX/XVid without conversion - other Snapdragon phones are able to do so without players being able to utilise hardware acceleration by brute force. Otherwise as things stand at the moment that list is reasonably correct, but we'll have to wait for the official announcement for confirmation. For example, Sony haven't yet released anything with 32GB of internal storage, so that sounds less likely to me than it just having a card slot.

roberth over at nokiausers.net has come back with a deal for the Nokia N900...
It is as follows:

DEVICE:
unlocked/sim free,boxed with all contents as packaged by Nokia

PRICE:
Price will be based on quantity of devices ordered.
Using a figure of 30-35 devices the price was quoted as $499USD(NOT INCLUDING SHIPPING)
The more devices ordered the lower the price per unit...

SHIPPING:
Directly to you. It doesnt need to come to me and then resent to you.
Shipping is by Fedex and with a tracking number....
this is where it gets a bit tricky....
because its directly to you it means each individual will be given a different shipping fee
For example someone in the USA will pay less than someone in New Zealand

*I dont want to overcomplicate matters so im thinking why not "split" the shipping charges?
That is everyone pays one flat shipping fee irrespective of location...this is where ill need some
feedback on what is seemingly fair/agreed to by most of us in this respect.*

WARRANTY
There is a 14 day return policy on DEFECTIVE ITEMS or DOA(DEAD ON ARRIVAL)
After this period we are only covered by Nokia....
As there is no NAM or MENA versions and there is only ONE N900 device....
the device will be covered by Nokia Europe, Nokia USA......

Im sorry to report but it will NOT be on release day but 2-3days AFTER...

i will not ask anyone to place any payment until:
1. warranty coverage is verified by nokia

to be honest....i have the opportunity to buy wholesale as i had a prior account
with this company....i just simply thought "hey this would be great for the guys/gals
on the forum to save some money in these hard times" and i extended the offer i got.....
its as simple as that....
when you do good things for others....good things return to you....

So...hes saying $499 US, thats roughly $660 NZ dollars only, cheap as chips!

But here are the risks with this offer people...
1) While roberth has been a member on nokiausers.net for some time, no one there has ever met him in person, no one can vouch for him, hence there is no way of really knowing if it is all a scam.
2) It would likely be either an Nokia USA or Europe manufacturer warranty only, no NZ cover...so should anything go wrong, you would have to send the device back to the country of origin at ya own cost, which could all be quite time consuming as well.

Hes still to come back with warranty details (country specific) and shipping costs.

So at the end of the day.... We are still waiting.... I really think by the time nokia release this phone there will be better phones in the market(if not already available). But if it is indeed as cheap as that then im still in.

Yes, that is the risk.

Hence I am not suggesting or recommending this to anyone, just highlighting it as an option, as if it is legit, then that's a fantastic price.

Personally, I am looking at it with interest, but I still prefer to deal with a NZ supplier and am actively searching for one.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to money, and I am guessing a NZ supplier will sell the N900 for around the same price as the N97 on release...between $1100 - $1400...a retailer like Vodafone will sell it for $1800...

Where importing from the USA in US dollars will equate to roughly $765...

And then compare to this deal, thats only about $660...

If it was only 1 or 2 hundred, I wouldn't bother, I would rather pay the extra for the NZ warranty and support...but as we are talking savings of possibly $500 - $800, well, that's worth investigating.

Dell is currently retailing the Nokia N900 for only $519.99 US!
That's cheap as chips!

More amazing than that, is that Dell previously offered a discount code for the Nokia N900, making it only $441.99 US!

Unfortunately they are only selling to US residents, but that is exactly the deal we need to find...
A reputable online retailer, and a great price.

The only thing I would be holding off on is the release date...I would be annoyed if the site did not get their stock until weeks/months later after it was released elsewhere...
