1) Latest Maemo 5 Global release for Nokia N900 (RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin)

This file is for flashing your firmware...it will wipe it clean and install PR1.2

2) Latest Vanilla version of the eMMC content for Nokia N900 (RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin)

The file is for flashing your Mass Memory...it wipes it clean and starts again.

can update PR1.2 via "nokia software updater" now in nz .be OTA soon i say . all updated here now :P

I have got to say the N900 looks impressive and I am envious of all those that have it BUT I have been putting off getting it till OviMaps is released with voice nav.

I am a little worried that its been sometime now that the N900 is out and there doesnt seem to be any word from Nokia on when this is going to happen for what would appear to be there flagship phone?

Ahhhh, its hard finding the perfect phone!

Hi guys I wonder if you can help me. This has nothing to do with the last firmware update as about 7 hours before I got it this issue started and has persisted into the new update. I was on a call and it dropped it. I looked at the phone and it had the “no simcard” symbol up. The weird this was it then powered down and would not start up again unless I put it on charge. Odd as the battery was completely full. Anyway it had me beat. Today though I think I am closer to the problem. I noticed the no simcard symbol come up while just mucking about with my desktops and so switched it manually from 3g to gsm. Bang up comes the symbol and off goes the N900. Same thing required to get it going again. I put it back on 3G and it is good as gold. I have tried 2 other simcards and mine in other phones in all modes and they are fine and when in my phone give the same result. Any ideas? Send it back time? Luckily the shop I got it from has a year’s return to base warranty. Thanks in advance P.S I have had a really good look around here and the net and can't seem to find the same issue

Yep I have searched for hours over there. There are a couple of threads I asked in but no luck so far. The phone is on its way back for a check up now. It really started being silly. No 2G at all and random shutdowns while trying to use it. Dropping calls on 3G and shutdowns when using data. Thank god it is covered with a 12 month warranty. Just frustrating I could not find the issue. Thanks for the suggestion.

anyone using the instructions from this website for flashing their phone should know if you're flashing both the phone and the eMMC you need to remove the last -R from the code when flashing your phone first. If not, your phone wiill reboot between flashes which doesn't work out well. trust me.

Once i worked that out from the comments on the website everything went smoothly. however I did run the backup app afterwards and while it restored my contacts it couldn't restore my settings, anyone else have this problem? it just says unknown error. is it because i didn't reinstall all my backed up apps?

I updated OTA this time...as I did not want to loose my paid-for Joikuspot and Angry Birds level packs....
So cant help ya Im afraid....but I did know of that requirement (remvoing the -R).....it was not required previously though so likely caught quite a few people out.

I couldnt flash without hassle anyway, as I have Windows 7 64bit, which causes problems during flashing, as I found out.

I will likely flash again later down the track though....like a clean slate every now and again.

Now, I shall install Titans Kernel, and attempt to overclock to 1100MHz

I followed those same instructions and got caught out! Just ran through the full flash of firmware and eMMC again without the first "-R" and all was well.

My backup worked fine though, settings, contacts, messages etc all there.

Wow!

I have had a monumental huge jump in battery life!

In the past, my N900 was connected to the web all the time....obviously as I was either browsing the web, checking email, reading RSS updates or using IM chat.....

And I have tried many ways to save battery life....my best find was the 3G/2G/Dual mode selection applet....and whenever I was not browsing the web, I would always put my N900 in 2G mode...as I have found 3G consumes far more battery life.....

But what I noticed just the other day.....is my N900 had gone the whole day, and used only about 10% of the battery......how did that happen, what was different?

No internet connection.

I had gone the whole day without connecting to the internet....that was the difference...and I have now realized having that internet connection enabled all the time consumes alot of battery life....even though I am not actually using my N900 or online at all times....so there was actually alot of battery wastage there.

I remembered long ago an app, and after a quick search found it, AutoDisconnect....

Its simple.....when your using your N900, you connect to your default internet connection like usual....
But when the N900 is not in use, after a set period of inactivity, AutoDisconnect disconnects all specified connection.....wifi, GPRS (3G/2G) and bluetooth.......which substanially saves battery life!

The downside it obvious.....
Email wont come through immediately, and IM chat is disabled, until you wakeup the device and enable an internet connection again......but I can handle that.

Hope this is of use to others.

Sick of this excrement. Who want's to buy my N900?

Phone won't update OTA. Can't flash it using the PC suite because I don't use windows, and I can't flash it because Nokia doesn't distribute 64bit binaries for linux. GG Nokia.

Bugga.
No issues here with updates.

Have you enabled the Dev and Testing repositories, downloaded apps from them?
It could be possible you have installed something dodgy that has messed up your settings...
If that is the case, ya only got yaself to blame for buggy software.

Just a quick note to those who updated to PR 1.2 like me and dutifully deleted all the memory hugging apps like ioquake 3 etc. Update was a charm via ota but when i installed ioquake3 again no joy. Tried everything but then realised I had installed the maemo 6 version which is a work in progress. maemo 5 is not in extra dev anymore, luckily found thru maemo.org, games section and installed it via x terminal as a deb file. Never done that before but must say again how handy winscp is for shifting files around with a gui under win 7.

Also installed the latest point release before shipping the files over, but not sure this is necessary.

All good and back death matching, love auto aim, love accelerometer controls, love the video out to my projector.
