i wonder if iphone fans

1. have tried any other 'smartphones' in their life...

2. have used opera mobile in their life...

most people i knew who bought iphone will answer 'no' to both of these. they just bought it because it is the 'thing' today. this explains why:

I have voted for the iPhone and:

1. I have a very good experience with Windows Mobile - actually I have been a Microsoft Mobile Devices MVP from 2004 through 2009. During this time I probably have owned or experienced a fair share of Windows Mobile devices both Standard and Professional. Also I have been involved in the private beta for Windows Mobile 5, Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Mobile 6.1

2. I have some experience with Symbian.

So, yes to your loaded question.

As for the tweet - I agree. I read a blog where the guy was impressed his $1200 smartphone could do copy-and-paste. Pathetic, isn't it?

I love my iPhone, can't vouch for any other phones though. The great thing about the iPhone's browsing compared to others is ease of use. I don't want it to be a huge ordeal to browse the web or Google something quickly. iPhone makes it super easy.

iPhone hands down.

i've had several phones also, Imate varieties, BB, IPhone3G and N95. Although i'm getting use to browsing with the n95 its got nothing on the iphone.

Curious about your comment about fannec being alpha freitasm - is that the browser being released on the n900 on October 1

Yes I've used opera b4 and it doesn't compare with mobile safari.. It's the best for windows mobile but not the best..

I haven't used Opera Mobile 9.7 on a device yet, but have read many a good thing about it. Have used Safari on an iPhone, its pretty decent, but cumbersome with text entry.

Android is nice, but not as good as Safari.

But overall the N900 with the Fennec browser is just so damn good!! Quick, flash works (properly) easy to scan round the page as well as zoom in/out.

Thats good to hear Brent, gives cyberhub another choice as it will be available very shorty, available for pre-order right now.

Obviously features the N97 and most certainly the N900 have over the iPhone is txt input and Flash, iPhone has no Flash.

Do you an N900 with you now for testing/review?

macuser: Andriod doesn't have multi touch zoom, so it's a bit slower to navigate.

HTC Hero supports multi touch and it's running Android.

Do whatever you want to do man.

HTC Hero has flash support. It looks better than the Iphone. I know I've owned both!

Have you tried Opera Mobile 9.7 on a WVGA screen? Thats the real question, because seeing web pages in their entire width with readable text at that size, and then zooming in with reflowed text in the bits you want to read beats the iPhone for me (yes, I've tried iPhone/iPod touch extensively).

I expect that when Android phones hit WVGA resolution (Sony Rachael, apparently later this year) their browser will also offer a better experience than the iPhone, possibly the best mobile browsing experience

Regardless how you wanna look at it, or take it... mobile browsing on iPod Touch or iPhone with the latest Safari (iPhone OS 3.0) is very nice. Only disappointing fact is, it DOESN'T do Flash. Not biggie but most sites are terribly wrong and unfriendly not to have Flash-less content! Like Pizza Hut's!

Pocket IE or IE Mobile on Windows Mobile has always been a real pain, and no amount of "update/upgrade" can make it any better... it is pathetic! Opera for WM is slightly better but no much, Opera Mini for WM JVM is just... *cringe*

Not sure how MS can address this with their Zune's browser though... hope it's better than PIE/IEM

Opera browsers on Nokia is average, nothing too stellar, just livable and usable.

Internet is my backyard...

1st, InMy(recent)Opinion

iPhone 3Gs, the speed, rendering and touble tap-formatting and pinch zoom are second only to a PC but there is NO Flash support.
I have just "touched the waters" by buying an iPhone 2G and am loving it.

2nd,

Nokia N95, whilst it crashes a lot, though nothing the newer phones, it's still pretty darn quick and supports rudimentary flash. turning off that mini-map also really improves the scrolling speed and memory.
Still a surprisingly capable beast, especially considering its almost 3 years old now.

3rd,

Palm treo pro modified to true 320 x 320 "96dpi" running opera beta actually works surprisingly well if you have been given/lent a work phone. Just forget the built in InternetExplorer.

Some other much cheaper phones also have surprisingly good web browsers in them also, The SonyEricsso nc510a is one example and even the ZTE "Telecom" phones did surprise me somewhat but they all choke a bit on larger pages such as nzherald.

Seriously, if you just want to browse and not type endless emails, go for the iPhone. If you want a device with a keypad or a device that is a bit more "open", you may have to compromise a bit.
The Palm Treo Pro is certainly quite usable running opera.

You cannot have tried Opera Mobile 9.7 if you're making that comment, its unbelievably better than the awful PIE. Finger friendly, renders pages as well as the iPhone (but they're better to look at since you can have WVGA screens), loads pages faster than anything bar Opera Mini in turbo mode, double-tap to zoom and reflow, and being WM you can add flash capability (which it doesn't have by default).
