It's my understanding that the TX95 supports MMS, as will the 6225. But let's face it: noone's going to use MMS on 027 until it's compatible with the 021 network. This is bound to happen eventually, but I can't see it happening anytime soon.

Tmobile? I text UK vodafone and orange and have no problems.. Might just be TMobile.
Anyway re: other CDMA Carries and MMS, Verizon, Sprint, KDDI and US Cellular all have MMS, and they are just ones I can remember off the top of my head. US Cellular are going to have MMS on the 3105 and 6585 1Q this year. Unlike TNZ

Back to the original topic of this thread, the PC sync capabilities of the 6585….

I purchased one of these yesterday, with a PC cable.

After much time spent, and web searching, I have managed to connect my PC to the phone, and sync with Outlook.

The phone comes with a manual for Nokia PC Suite 5.2, and tells the user to download this app from www.nokia.com/us, however at that site all downloads are by phone model number, and (as mentioned here) the 6585 is not listed on that web site.

After downloading several versions of PC suite by selecting random phone model numbers, I now have a collection of several versions of PC Suite. Seeing note here by JaBZ was the solution, the PC software for model 3105 is indeed version 5.2.

The next trap is the cable sold at great cost by Telecom More Mobile is actually a locally made clone of the Nokia DKU-5, and the Nokia drivers do not work. The cable comes with drivers on a floppy, which do work, however nothing on the disk refers to any Nokia phone. The web page mentioned (www.pccard.co.nz) consists of a jumble of broken links in the support area only, so is no help.

I therefore have successful connection for editing and updating the phone, but no modem .inf file for the phone to allow internet connection – anyone got any ideas? Note that as the weekend overtook the changeover of my phone contract, the 6585 is not yet live on the air, so I have not actually been able to try any config files, I will try a 3105 .inf file the first opportunity I get.

I have another problem – the sync programme successfully loads the phone’s directory from my outlook contacts folder, however my standard contacts list exceeds the phone’s memory. While I could simply set up a new contacts folder in outlook with a smaller number of entries and sync to that, does anyone know how to get it to sync to a sub-set of the man folder, or perhaps in Outlook, keep separate contacts folder up-to-date from the main folder?

Hi radionut, I am running one of these "clone" cables, and have not issues at all.

I set up the cable, and it shows up in device manager as Com5 "APT Usb - Serial Adapter". I then wanted to set the phone up as a modem.

I went and started a new modem wizard, and then sellected "Dont sellect my modem, I will choose it from the lsit" I then point it to the disk, and pick "APT CDMA Handsets-Modem Driver - Rev2.X.X", sellect "APT - Nokia 2280, 3585, 3586, 6385 - 115.3K" And put the modem on Comm 5. And that was that.

It had no mention of the "6585" but the above worked fine for me

I then set up a new CDMA connection, Dial number #777, Login mobile@jamamobile, Passwork Telecom.

Hope this helps! If you have no luck I will e-mail you the .inf file for you.

Cheers
Peter

ahhhh Peter,

I must have an old disk - the files on my floppy are dated Aug 2002, and there is definately no reference to Nokia whatsowever. I guess there were no Nokia CDMA phones released then.

I will drop you a note by email for that .inf file.

Thanks!

Righto… now I have the 6585 working as a modem – thanks to skyplonk for the .inf file.

I am experimenting with the various functions…

Has anyone been able to load a ring tone from the PC Suite? I have generated a midi, and run Nokia Sound Converter (part of the PC Suite 5.2). All goes well until I click the “update to phone” button – everything stops, and after a couple of minutes I get “server busy” with a “retry” button. This can go on for several attempts or only one, but the end result is always an error “failed to update the ring tone to the phone”. No explanation why.

I can connect to the phone successfully in the same session with “Nokia Phone editor” (and update the address list), so I don’t think there is anything wrong with the connection between the PC and the 6585.

Anyone with ideas?

I've installed the pc suite for Nokia 3105 and had no problems updating the gallery with images or tones and installing java applications.

I have had no success using the phone as a infrared modem though.

I got this response from Telecom when I asked them for a modem.inf file

"Telecom NZ doesnt support infrared. Sorry cant help"

This is interesting as they advertise the phone as supporting infrared, the handbook says it supports infrared and the PC Suite Guide they provide (without the software) states this phone can be used as an infrared mobile for internet and fax calls. So perhaps its just because they have a substandard network?

The PC Suite guide says the modem should install in Windoes 2000 as a Standard Modem over IR Link, which it does.... it just won't connect when I try and dial an ISP

I've had absolutely NO problems connecting my Vodafone 6610 (which the Telecom 6585 is basically a clone of, the only thing they have done is change the faceplates minutely so you can't use 6610 faceplates which seems unneccessary) via infrared and dialing ISPs.

Any help anyone?

I've had no end of trouble trying to connect up my 6585 with my PC.
I did find it most amusing that the manual states getting the version 5.2 from the US site without it actually being there. At least the site had the descency to list the 6585.
Spent countless hours looking for software and looking through SDKs trying to find information about connecting to my PC without a great deal of luck.
I originally bought a infared module for my PC which the original PC Suite I'd downloaded actually recognised my phone but that was about it. Nothing else worked. XP Pro would intermittantly recognise a wireless link but I have no idea what to do then with it.
I then hunted about for a DKU-5 cable which telecom wanted $200 and vodafone wanted $180. FECK OFF. Even from the US site the cable is less than US$50. A 200% markup? No thank you. I finally found through trademe a "clone" for $69 all up including postage.
It arrived last week and I thought "Woohoo" my problems are over! NOT.
Again PC Suite would recognise the phone but then nothing would work. Still at square one.
The other day I noticed a product call MobiMB, http://www.logomanager.co.uk/php/products.php?id=51 which I had previously tried but it didn't work but as of this month, the new version supports the 6585. And it does! The trial version does anyway and the full version costs US$28 which isn't bad i thought.
But first I'm going to try the PC Suite for 3105 before I spend more money.
Damn, I wish more models where available at the beginning of this year. I was kinda desperate for a new phone as my old one met with an unfortunate accident. Now the 3105 looks interesting (for $100 less :S) and so does the 6225, dammit.

Anyway, this is my wonderful experiences with the 6585.

I've read through this thread (after) i had already bought a 6585, but today i got a genuine DKU-5 cable and hooked it up to my PC.

To start with i had problems - i couldn't get the PC-Suite 5.2 to recognise the phone. So i uninstalled and reinstalled everything - still no luck. Then i realised that i had downloaded the version of the cable driver that was listed on the 3105 site (http://www.nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,53300,00.htm). So i uninstalled everything again, and installed the driver from the site. The setup file has a date of 6/9/01 whereas the file on the CD is dated 4/4/01.

I also chose COM5 (remember seeing that somewhere), and hey presto the whole thing goes. I have managed to synch it with Outlook, and the phone browser shows up in Explorer.

Thanks to all who have provided info, and hope these tips might help others to get their phone working correctly.

Now i just have to find the modem drivers!

Woohoo!!!

I've installed PC Suite 5.2 for 3105 and everything is running sweet. Such a load off my mind. Now I can upload some cool pics... games... apps :) And prolly most importantly... manage contacts.

One question though... Why is everyone looking for the modem drivers for there nokia? Isn't it somewhat cost prohibitive to use the phone in such a fashion?

yes it's very confusing as to what version of PC Suite is required by the Nokia 6585, VERY poorly handled by both Telecom and Nokia I rang both their support lines and noone could help for the 2 weeks of having the phone. Then Nokia told me to download the PC Suite for the 3105, which is 5.2 worked fine.
This version of the PC Suite is actually for the 3105, 6585 and the upcoming 6225
As I said before also doesn't help that the phone is NOT listed on Nokia's NZ or Asia pacific website, it only just turned up on the American one.

One thing that disappointed me was that the PC Suite does not have an SMS manager. I have not found a program that can sync or send SMS messages for CDMA phones, I'm not sure what the reason is, even the popular programs like Oxygen Phone Manager, Logomanager cannot send SMS messages via phone.

Morfeus : the reason why people want to use the phone as a modem is so we can access Telecom's Mobile Jetstream service, i.e. 1X Data, we can use our data plans.

B.T.W when windows XP or windows 2000 detects the phone and installs a standard IR modem it's fine to use that you don't really need to load a driver.
You do however need to input an initialisation string in the modem properties, so the phone can connect successfully to mobile jetstream. The sting you need to input is... +crm=1;+cso=33

Also aparently the manual is not modified for different markets, it is the same that's printed for Finland, printed in Canada for all markets. Hence the MMS pages in the manual.
