Hi, yes I am using a 6585, nice phone, first decent colour CDMA phone "IMHO"...

Although it does have it's shortcomings, mainly firmware related. These all could easily be fixed, but I doubt that it will happen.
First gripe is MMS, the phone supports MMS, MMS has been removed from Firmware, however some cockup between Nokia's implementation of it for Telecom's network means it was removed, which in my opinion isn't good enough, it should have been fixed not disabled. The manual even explains how to use it etc..
(There is a amendment from Telecom that comes in the box explaining to ignore the MMS pages in the manual stating that the phone doesn't support MMS, BUT it does it's just that Nokia cocked it up for Telecom's network)

Second gripe is Email support in "Messaging Menu".. it's missing, i.e. you can't send an email message. Again even though the manual states how to use it. I MEAN COME ON TELECOM/NOKIA isn't this supposed to be a 1X DATA capable phone?!

Third gripe turning on Infrared... Menu --> scroll to Settings ---> scroll to Phone settings --->Scroll to Infra red, turn it on... too many steps, Why cant they use their "Connectivity Menu" like all the other series 40 phones!?

Ok now back to your questions :)

The phone has the Nokia Pop Port connector on it so I'm pretty sure you can use the DKU-5 USB data cable with it.... XP installs a standard IR modem for it when it's detected via IR, not sure what modem ‘inf’ you would use for a cable connection?! Does the DKU-5 come with a drivers CD?

I had to download and install Nokia PC Suite for the Nokia 6220 for the functions to work, I cannot get the Synchronisation to work it says "not connected".
I can use Nokia Phone Browser, the 6585 icon shows up so you can browse the folders on the phone and transfer gallery items like ringtones, wallpaper etc..
The phone is detected as a 2285 in content copier, pc sync, settings manager which don’t work properly or not at all... I can get "phone editor" to work...

Also it doesn't help that the 6585 is NOT listed on any Nokia site, hence no downloads for the phone, So I had to use PC Suite for the 6220...
I don't know why the phone is not listed on any Nokia site, If you find a specific PC Suite for it please let me know where!!!

I tried to use Oxygen Phone Manager 2.2 although it won't recognise the phone, and Oxygen Software have said they don't support the phone!...

I'm wondering if the Pop Port is going to be compatible with Pop Port Accessories, i.e the Nokia AD-5B Bluetooth Adapter when it comes out..., or the PT-3 Pop Port camera!
Will firmware be released to support these accessories since there is NO connectivity menu, will firmware with MMS support be released? Why would you use the camera without MMS support?!

So in short Nice phone I like it, it's a keeper till the 6225 comes out, BUT a lot of shortcomings, which I think can be fixed easily!!.....

cheers,
Jaidev

Here you go http://www.nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,53300,00.html
This is the PC Suite for the Nokia 3105, should also officially work with the Nokia 6585..
Drivers for the DKU-5 Cable are also there..

cheers,
Jaidev

the nokia 6585 was released during the week b4 christmas.
and it's little brother comes out this week sometime (i think).
I also *think* NZ is the first to get these CDMAs, a bit of a trial ground.

Which models will that bluetooth adaptor work with? It sounds as if it would be a brilliant product for CDMA users who are stuck without bluetooth. The only problem is, I suspect that they'll be astronomically expensive.

i'm still flabbergasted that MMS support was removed from the nokia.
does anyone know of any CDMA networks worldwide that do have MMS up and running?

Taniwha, for CDMA MMS, Telecom is up and running. What about the Hyundai TX95c? This was launched here exactly for the MMS capabilities...

the hyundai has been advertised as being able to send to email address, but not other phones.
should we be expecting it to send to MMS as well.

When I asked TNZ about MMS, I've got the flyer for the Hyundai and my contact told me that this phone was being released to specifically support MMS. This is the article I linked in my previous post.

Have a look in this page:

"With your Photo Messaging capable 027 mobile you can send photo messages to the following:

  • Other Telecom Photo Messaging capable mobile phones
  • To anyone with an email address anywhere in the world simply by entering an email address instead of a phone number
  • To any text capable Telecom mobile phone which does not support Photo Messaging. The person will receive a text message which tells them how to view the Photo Message on the web at www.xtra.co.nz/viewphotomsg

Note: Photo Messages from a Telecom Mobile cannot be sent to mobile phones on other networks. "

i tried sending an MMS to another 027 again, and paid more attention
"Bad sender address" flashes on the screen for about 2 seconds, then vanishes.

oh well, i guess i should ask telecom.
