thanks for the input lancealot, some of that will be really helpful once I've got my hands on mine.

@kitretter there is a beta update for fennic firfox out in beta i did try to instal but got a notifiction saying no application found, so hofully soon.

So my 3.5mm jack issue has not come corect i wil reflash my system now hoping this is a system fault, but all signs point to hardware, eternal hope though will get me through. if this does not corect i will take in to nokia repair in chrischurch and if i dont need to take out a mortgage i will get them to take a look.

A 3.5mm jack repair would surely not be expensive as it is a fairly easy task to replace it and parts are cheap provided they're not custom to the N900. If NokiaNZ won't do it for you/are too expensive it shouldn't be to hard to find a third party that would do a repair for a reasonable price. Either a local Electronic/PC Repair Shop or a seller on Trademe would be your best bet.

My LCD on my HP Laptop died last month. I got quoted $550 + Labour for a brand new LCD + Inverter from Monitor & Terminal on Willis St in Wgtn. Asked around on Trademe & found a guy located at a PC Shop on the North Shore who did the whole thing for $280 incld. labour & shipping. So happy I did my homework on that one.

The default N900 browser has double tap to zoom + reflow.

You have not even got your N900 yet, yet speak of getting rid of it already?

Updates will come, but you can't expect perfection immdiatley, nor can you expect everything you want fixed or changed to be done in the first firmware update.

I will try, and if you guys do, I suggest using your US shipito address again, and get it posted, otherwise it will likely be declined.

It is available now.

It can be downloaded by either visiting the website, which will then automatically open your App Manager...or you can just find it manually in the App Manager.

I think you could not find it as it is likley in the beta repository, which I have enabled.

I have downloaded and tested it already, and I can tell you, it's not ready for eveyday use...

It's very slow and unresponsive at the mo...but the potential is there.

All the best apps are curently in the beta repository.

Zoom+reflow? Yeah, after a fashion, it just doesn't work nearly as well.

I believe many of the issues willl be sorted with firmware upgrade soon, but the hardware differences will probably still make the HD2 better for my use.

As soon as I get my handset I will be applying for mine using my Shipito Address. That will be the only way residents outside the US can get the $50 Visa card unless you have relatives there willing to lend a hand.

I find it rather annoying that sites like Amazon advertise this as a rebate when it's really not. It's a special offer in the form of a prepaid visa card thats only for use on the ovi store.

N900 performed well on road trip up North from CHCH to AKL. Excellent 3.5G data speeds in Parnell and good 3G even in Shoal Bay, managed some 3G signal in Matapouri and Whangaumu.
Averaging a day with high use and 2 days with occasional use. Car adaptor with the CA 146c did the job and has yet to fry my phone. Call clarity is good but volume needs to be higher.
Annoying delay still when trying to answer an incoming call with just the touchscreen, surely there must be some hard button to do this job??
Still love it and fully believe the upcoming software updates will make this phone even more fun.

I have now turned off the developer repository, although it had alot of goodies it was like cheap sex.Exciting at first but found plenty of STDs that drained battery life. Back to file manager and deleted anything useless. The conversations widget was useless, I agree the facebook widget is meh. Playing SNES games on the keyboard is challenging but great views on my projector, wish I has that in my SNEs heyday. Am purchasing a zeemote for this purpose. I have not bothered with a screen protector, the touch screen is reasonably random in term of feel at the best of times. Capacitive touch was the way they should have gone but we all know that right but still purchased.

I've had mine for a few weeks now, and I'm reasonably impressed. The UI style works a treat, didn't take very long to get used to.

Hardware feels mostly solid. The screen doesn't wobble, has a satisfying 'click' to the sliding motion. One thing I have noticed is the screen has developed a physical 'click' effect in the top-right area.

Battery life for me hasn't been too bad. But not great either. Left Auckland at sometime around 7am, played MP3s via FM non-stop until hitting the Coromandel at around 11am. Battery indicator was at ~10% and the device was usable until the next morning. This was with the Facebook, OMWeather (in gps-mode), and conversations widget running on the desktop and occasional sporadic surfing.

My biggest issue is the lack of working sync over Google Sync. But not having email straight to my phone is probably a good thing. In the meantime the browser handles gmail like a champ.

I've also been unable to get MSN integration going with telepathy-pecan, but the lack of multi-presence from the MSN protocol kinda removes any benefits.

The apps aren't really that amazing and I don't see the Maemo platform making much progress in way of developer interest. That said, I'm downloading the SDK as I type and will attempt bashing together a desktop widget and app for ToodleDo. Can't say how long I'll stay interested in this though.

I'm not really confident I'll keep it. Unless Google Sync gets fixed sharpish I'll probably start looking at jumping ship... When somebody releases an Android device with a decent processor and hardware keyboard. Or maybe go for a Palm Pre.

was just able to load fennec firfox from the app manager, this means they must have given it the green light.

By "multi-presence" you mean the ability to login from multiple PCs/clients? If that's the case, blame the software you are using - Live Messenger allows you to login from more than one PC, each with its own name - you can even receive messages in more than one.

In terms of Google Sync you could always run it through Mail For Exchange as detailed here http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2009/12/how-to-sync-google-contacts-calendar-and-email-with-nokia-mail-for-exchange.html

Yup, thats how I got my contacts on the phone Brent, although for some reason gmail push just wouldn't work (in the end I turned of Mail for Exchange after grabbing my contacts and then used Nokia Messaging for gmail push).
