Hi Skyplonk, I wasn't aware of the price discrepency on the TX95c cable, but I'll see if I can find out a bit more information.

As for the Oxygen phone manager it's the first time it's been mentioned to me, so likewise I'll see if i can find some more information. Also FYI, there is a newer revision of the cable that was released several weeks back. DKU5 style cables with S/N #'s in the 62xxx series will be the newer ones.

If you look in the latest cellect price book, you will see the differences in buy prices.
I heard there was a newer cable out with a change in the pin configuration. But they still do not work with OPMII, other than that no problems with Data Suite or anything.

Cheers

LOL, Not quite a change in pins, just a change in the way it puts the phone into the popport mode. AFAIK they physically changed the interface very slightly with the newer phones. Hence the cables needed a slight change to allow for it.

I'll see if i can get a copy of oxygen phone manager to test with.

Hi, i'm new here. I found this topic interesting after tons of searches on the net for information regarding the Nokia 6585 phone.

I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and i recently acquired this phone. It's a great phone, but to my deception i found out that my phone service provider, called "VIVO", sorta tweaked the firmware and killed (or hid) the Application menu (menu 13) and included one called Downloads forcing us to connect to a download center to get apps, games, midis, etc...I tried to connect to this download center but it said it had no categories available so no luck there.

I was able to make the Nokia PC Suite 5.2 that i downloaded from the asian nokia site work successfully with the phone using the dku-5 cable. Although the Application Installer wouldnt work, nor when trying to install the games, it would say that it's too big to fit in the memory, a
50k game with about 3MB of free space on the phone. That disappointed me, because forcing us to spend money to use the phone features is quite absurd.

I then tried a program called MobiMB and to my luck it worked perfectly with the phone. I was able to install the games and copy midi files and images ...i didnt get a chance to install any apps, because i don't have any =P

well, i was wondering if anyone here would know a way to make this Application menu reappear or if there is a way of modifying the firmware back to it's original one...

somehow i think the MMS feature is also gone and there is an item called Caller Groups that i can't figure out how to make it work...i'd select it in the contacts menu and it would just send me back to the main screen...

well, hope someone can give me some insight....thanks!

Jules

Thaks for the info on MobileMB. i'll check that out. :-)

For your missing applicsation menu, then there probably isn't any method to get it back, short of getting your phone reprogrammed (ie the software replaced)
In my country there are usualyl a few dealers that offer that sort of thing, but it also often voids the phone's warrunty.

For the missing MMS, does your network provider actaully support MMS? there's not much point in getting hte feature working again when you can't actaully send anything.

For you to be able to use MobiMB with the Nokia 6585, you'll need version 1.28 or higher...

It's kinda hard to find that sorta thing here in brazil, dealers who reprogram, but i'll look. Would you know if there is a way we users can do that sorta thing with special cables or something?

My network provider has something about MMS on its site...i guess it does have the support, but i tested it out one day and it looked more like a web card system than MMS lol...i received an SMS telling me to check out the website...i tried thru the wap, but somehow i couldnt open the site and i just gave up...

you'll be recieving ther web card URL, because your cellular netowrk provider has detected that your phoen doesn't support MMS.

as for viewing via wap, i wish they would make them viewable for smartphones and PDAs. Telecom NZ's mms collection website works fine in my Pda, but vodafone's requires flash player. i'm quite miffed about that. why do they need flash to retrieve an image? (and it also gives me a rude message if i'm not using windoze+IE.. blah!)

Jules, unfortuantely Nokia lock down their menu structure fairly tightly. The only way to make the missing menus reappear is to change the PRI settings in the handset. Normally only a Nokia authorised Service centre has this level of access to the handsets s/w.

Hmmm...

I downloaded Oxygen Phone Manager version 2.2 build 2.0 as suggested, and note it does not list 6585 as one of the compatable phones.

I have installed it, but it refuses to connect t my 6585. I am using the IR port on my laptop, which Nokia connection manager is happy with, but when Oxygen tries to talk I get the little tool-bar icon showing activity, starting and stopping on and off, and after a while I get a com alarm on Oxygen. I have left my expensive cable at the office, so cannot try that until Monday, but will do so then.

My reason for trying Oxygen is, the version of Nokia Phone Manager I downloaded (vn 5.2, lsited for the 3501, as sugested earlier in this forum), will sync my address book with Outlook, and update ring tones, but does not let me edit any of the features of the phone. Before I got the tip to download the version for the 3501, I had downloaded an ealier one (4 point something, now uninstalled so I can't remember the actual version) and although it was unable to sync the address book, it WAS able to edit phone startup text, wallaper etc while on line. I was hoping Oxygen would do this for me.

Has anyone actually got an Oxygen version to talk to their 6585?

I guess the real question is - is there ANY software anywhere that is designed to talk to the 6585 around yet?

My 6585 now works fine the latest version of OPM. I am using it with IR and my Tosh M30 Notebook. I have version 2.2, Build 2.0. Downloaded from C-NET... Comes up with the picture of the phone, ESN Number, Firmware, and everything apart from SMS. Also my Nokia software works fine. Use it on a daily basis.

When you say your Nokia software works fine, what can you do with it?
My "Nokia Phone Editor" only allows editing the address book (which is being sync-ed with Outlook anyhow, so not much point using this editor also). The earlier version I had (I must re-load it to see what version it was) had more options in "Nokia Phone Editor" I am sure - allowed editing the start-up text, changing wallpaper etc from the PC - all the things you can do from the menu on the phone. This version does not allow any of these. Unfortunately the older version would not sync to Outlook.

Software versions are interesting - I downloaded and installed Nokia PC Suite 5.2, and that title is what appears in my Control Panel, add/remove software, whereas when I run "Nokia Phone Browser" and click "help/about" it says it is version 5.10.7.018 and the "Nokia Phone Editor" is version 4.6 in it's header, and 4.6.24.18 in the "help/about".
