The IR works with default drivers if you want a modem
but you can do so much more than just data with a IR port on a phone...
Syncing calendars, editing settings, sending ringtones, wallpapers, java games....
not everything worked for quite some time after launch. Nokia's website only recently acknowledged that the phone exists

Telecom only will test Data transfer using IR , they do not test sync tools, also at test time most of these sync tools are not ready to be tested , they only become available after the phone has launch, so if there are issues that need to be fixed in the handset it is almost to late

A warning to people not to buy anything from http://www.cellularking.com (who advertise on this website). I ordered a US$35 cable from them, paid, they sent me a receipt, and they never shipped it.

They also don't reply to any forms of communication so I assume they are a skam.

Has anybody played round with Java development for the 6585. Been meaning to have a bit of a play but haven't had time.

Other than that this has been an excelent phone. I don't really care about MMS I got this phone mainly because you can write Java apps for it and camera phones etc are just a waste of money.

Data cable worked first time, software syncs fine, only issue is gettting the converter to work and playing midi files.

Hi All,

I have been reading through this thread with interest as I have a 3105 and a "3rd Party" DKU-5 cable that I can't seem to find a suitable driver for....is there any chance that anyone may have a driver for a clone DKU-5 that has worked for them?

If so I would be very greatful if someone would be able to send it to me

Thanks

hey doylejul

most clone DKU-5 use the Prolific Pl-2303 USB to Serial chipset. You can get the drivers from Prolific's website here http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/fcabdl.asp?fid=27879636

Hi Doylejul,

Your profile does not say where you are from, but if it is New Zealand, I would guess your cable is an APT product.

If this is so, have a look at the posts from jpwise - he can provide drivers for you - he makes them.

Cheers

Hi doylejul, yes the majority of 3rd party cables for CDMA in NZ are from us (APT), and they ship with either a floppy or mini-cd with drivers and installation instructions. If you have one of our cables (can be identified by a silver sticker with our contact details and a serial number), please email me with the serial number and I will send you a copy of the drivers.

As said ours normally ship with drivers, but I believe there may have been a small number (<30) that were shipped without disks this week (incorrectly packaged without mini-cd's). The dealers they were shipped to should have all been informed and sent cd's by now.

If it's not one of ours then I won't be able to send you drivers, but as JaBZ said, chances are what you've got uses the Prolific PL2303 chip, and then you can install the nokia modem inf from their website with it.

Jp.

PS: taniwha, you asked some time back about Palm -> Nokia 3105/6585,etc. I successfully tested some sample cables late last month/early this month for the Tungsten T series. There should be a production shipment due in soon. Unfortunately sales has already sold the sample cables I had aswell. There seems to be a fair bit of demand for them. From memory I believe several of the other Palms also use the same interface as the T series.

But send me an email if you want and I'll let you know when they arrive.

Jp.

Maybe I spoke too soon....it installed the USB-serial cable correctly indevice maager, but Nokia Phone Suite 5.2 cannot find a phone, despite the fact that it is set to the correct COM port (COM 3). I have tried changing COM ports, but no luck....maybe I should try Oxygen Phone manager...
The phone is a 3105 but the cable has 6100 on it. Anyone had success with this?
