Great column, exactly how I felt.    I heard that more than likely we will only be able to transfer recordings from tivo to the pc and vice versa and not from tivo to tivo.  Since you have done the mod and put the new software on your tivos, can you still transfer recordings  from one tivo to the other?  Have you given it a go yet?  I have the HNP and the multi room viewing is one of tivo's features that I really really like.

Also were you able to download the WinMFS beta 9.3G software to backup your original tivo drives for safe keeping, if so what website did you go to to download the WinMFS as I have googled everywhere trying to find it to no avail.

You only had to ask when we had that very long discussion, and I'd be happy to give you a link to winmfs beta 9.3G in my Dropbox. I won't post the link here for obvious reasons. Just PM me.

I have added a plea to others here in the Bay of Plenty - please don't dump TIVO. Recycle them and send on to the locals here who are working to recycle/rework them.

Yes I have been able to transfer programmes from each Tivo the HNP was used solely for this and it still works, as it always has.

I didn't bother with a backup as I too, couldn't find a site with a safe download.

So far, it is as if my TIVO has never stopped..

I now have a couple of others to get chipped.

The great news is TIVO lives on.

Please help keep them alive, if you have older relatives or friends who don't know and want to ditch them, then please donate to the guys in NZ that are gdoing the EPROM upgrades.

I am absolutely thrilled that we can still transfer our recordings from tivo to tivo.  But I was told by an expert on this forum that we should do an image drive backup for each of our original tivo drives to be kept on our pc or usb stick for safe keeping or either you can if replacing to newer and bigger drives, must keep the old original drives for safe keeping because if the drives fail and there is no backup either from an image drive backup or one hasn't kept the old original drives that were still working when replaced with the newer bigger drives, it will mean no more tivo as there is no way of getting tivo up and running again like we could do before 31/10/2017.

I have done this when I increased the size of my TIVO drives.

I have backups for both my main TIVOs sitting safely in storage.

And yes I use the HNP regularly - my wife loves it and I really wanted this tot work and it does. I have transferred this morning from my UPDATED drive to and from the other TIVOs that are not yet chipped or updated.

At the age of 71 now I'm not sure if I can be bothered doing this mod.  Will watch and see what happens over the next month or two before I decide..

Remove the drive - send it to me and I will do the software upgrade for you after you get the TIVO EPROM chipped.

No charge - just want to help, like the others are.

Now that the software is 'owned' by others, is there a chance of enabling the HNP on devices who didn't have it previously?

Excellent! Let's keep these TIVOs recycling around! Keep them out of the dirt!

The software is not owned by others. The original software has been slightly modified by the new software/patch. Much of the work has been behind the scenes and continues even now with fine tuning EPG data. Enabling the HNP on machines that don't have it is something that we feel should not be discussed as shaking the tree like this is not wise. It hasn't been looked at yet because getting this far has been such a big job, but it maybe looked at in future....

Those backups I suggested you do, are more relevant to those with the HNP. if your drive fails, you've lost the MAK (media access key) on that machine forever, so it's worth keeping a backup so that you can get that function back if your drive fails. If you don't have the HNP, no problem as you can always use a stock Tivo image and then run a guided setup connected to the new Community Mothership.

Just did the upgrade, Worked like a charm.

If you follow all the instructions in the .pdf installer file, its a piece of cake.

I've also done a connection to the new Mothership as well np .

I used a 4gig USB stick to boot with on one side of the laptop and a Unitek USB 3.00 to Sata6g converter on the other side hooked up to the Tivo drive still in the chassis.

All my season passes are still there as well.

If anyone in Hamilton.NZ is having trouble doing it PM me and I'm happy to volunteer to help if you bring it to me.

I can't do the chips but I can put new drives in and install the hack for you :)

Thank you to all the developers that worked so hard with this ! What an achievement !!!

You can find out how to install it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5lxlJLWDNmWWVFmbzhoYTItYk0

It's not an easy job, so unless you're competent with surface mount devices, best to get someone else to do it. The demand has been huge and still is. The only chips I can supply for a few weeks, will be ones I install here. John down in Christchurch (Try reading this thread) maybe able to help with PROMS  also, but I think he was low also.

I just tried my TIVO desktop app that was part of the HNP.

It too is working. I am transferring 800 Words recorded last night onto my desktop.

Not only does transferring programmes between Tivos work still, but so does the HNP for transferring onto PC.

It seems these functions are tied solely to the LAN - not anything outside the network.

I've just completed the 1st of 3, wife is test driving the functions, it can see the other tivo's and PC ok so it's a good bet the home networking is still functional
