Regardless of being a Telecom customer or not, they are still responsible for TiVo warranty in New Zealand and they can not get out of this.

You have your rights and you should get them to troubleshoot it with you and send a replacement if needed.

JGTN: Oops sorry I didn't actually mean to just post that. Am a newby at this forum stuff. hit enter before I realised i needed to scroll down and put an explanation.

Have called telecom and was told that as i am no longer a telecom customer they couldnt help. I will try again. The Tivo is off powering up again after working for almost an hour and a half.

yeah that was the answer I got with mine at the time. I wasnt a Telecom customer and they told me because of that they cant help. I ended up quitting them since no help. Actually glad to hear I am not the only one they wouldnt help since not a customer

They can not get out of the TiVo warranty as they are the distributors. They have to fix, replace it or refund if inside the warranty.

The OP says they offered a replacement, so she should take it.

I'm glad I stumbled on this. My in-laws Tivo started to persistently reboot towards the end of its warranty period last year, so took back to Noel Leeming. Some 6 to 8 weeks later they finally got a replacement, but the remote was dud - went through all the options to reset etc, then got a replacement remote which worked fine. After that, within a week, the same reboot problem is happening again. It takes ages for the thing to boot up which makes it even more frustrating.

The whole process involved giving them a temporary replacement (a DishTV model) twice, the first of which did not work because it actually lacked a hard drive. The whole process has been pretty poor.

I read on one of the Magic TV threads that there was a freeview related problem causing reboots.. what do people think about this?

It could be. I wonder if TiVo has anyone in New Zealand that can help diagnose this kind of problems though, if it's related to the content.

I'm not aware of any broad free to air problems causing that sort of issue (and I would have heard about it loudly ;) )

Constant rebooting is indicative of a hardware fault, though I'd be willing to consider a low quality signal causing system stability issues (although unlikely)

Have a peak in System Information, diagnostics, check out the signal strength, MER and verbati error rate

MER above 250 is preferred, and the lower the error rate the better.

Too strong a signal (EG after an amplifier and showing 100) has also been known to cause weirdness.
