I've never had that issue with my TiVo, and never heard of it before,

Getting TiVo to replace it again sounds like a terrible idea and a waste of your time. It has to be environmental or a setting, to have 2 TiVo's do that is tooo coincidental.

My TiVo was also rebooting itself randomly. I tried unpluggin it from the power for a while then powering it up again but the problem still persisted. I did a bit of a search on Google and someone suggested this could happen due to a faulty powerboard socket. I tried plugging the TiVo into a different powerboard/socket and the problem went away. Must be a faulty socket on the old power board but strangely nothing else has issues with the socket...

It's a good suggestion, but unfortunately I've tried that already. The Tivo is now connected through a brand new surge protected power board, and still has the same issues.

Not in Auckland. I have two of each channel on my TiVo channel list . I was having problems with picture breakup a couple of months ago on the Wiatarua transmitter. I switched them to the other set which was Pine hill and all was well.

Nope. I never saw a reason to get a professional installer in since for the first 6 months I had no problems with my Tivo. That leads me to believe there were no issues with my installation.

Probably good idea to have one around anyway. Last year we gave away a few Freeview|HD boxes. One of the recipients had no problem with his old box, but the new one wouldn't work.

A professional installer was sent by Freeview, and sure enough the aerial was completely rusted/covered. After replacement it worked better than ever.

I would second this. My aerial in the house I moved into about 6 months ago was an old Sky one from about 1990 and was rusty and falling apart. I also found a joint in the aerial feed that someone had added in at some time. Analog UHF was OK but digital was a pig with picture breakup and freeze framing. Ordered a complete new aerial, cabling and distribution box from the Freeview Shop and installed it a couple of weeks ago and now all is great..

Is it only ever when changing from TV2(TVNZ mux) to TV3(Mediaworks mux), not say from Prime(Kordia) to TV3? What if you press the 'live TV' button to swap tuners, and change from TV2 to TV3 on the other tuner?
If you go to the diagnostics screen is there anything strange about the Mediaworks (or TV3) stats, such as low signal or very high signal strength?

You can check the internal temperature from the System Information page. My 2 are running at 36C and 39C.

Thanks - I didn't know it was there. Ok, the device temperature is 43C (Normal) so I guess overheating can be ruled out.

I never paid attention to it, but you are right - it happens whenever a channel change involves Mediaworks mux, irrespective of if it is channel Up or Down or switching tuners. Changing channels on the same mux doesn't cause that effect. Signal strength is 83, MER is 319, no post-Viterbi errors.
The other strange thing is that now only the Tivo menu screen appears shifted a palm's width to the right, creating a black strip on the left of the screen. When I switch to Live TV that strip disappears and the screen looks normal. Well, until it reboots, that is.

I've turned faceplate display on, and it seems to me that the chances of rebooting are much higher when there is a resolution change when changing channels. Here is another theory - that it has something to do with HDMI. Should I change to component cables and see if does anything, or does this make no sense?
