Do you mean making it a fixed 576p? I could try that as a diagnostic - to see if by eliminating the resolution changes I'll eliminate the problem, but I'd hate to have it permanently.

You can fix it at 720p or 1080i as well. Just a way of cutting out a possible cause.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it - I tried fixing at 720p and 1080i before - no change. :(

I just don't get it. It's been 2 weeks, and my Tivo is behaving just fine. I did pretty much NOTHING.

For the first week I kept video output on Hybrid, and everything was fine except for the menu (accessible through the Tivo button on the remote) being offset by a palm's width to the right, leaving a black stripe on left hand side of the screen. But when watching TV or saved content the output was just fine, no artifacts.
So at the beginning of the second week I switched to 1080i fixed, and that sorted out the menu problem, and had no negative impact on watching TV.

This really does my head in, because I've tried all of these before and they didn't work. Only now they do. I guess I should be happy - I got a brand new Tivo out of Hybrid TV, and the problems seem to have gone away too, but I would really like to understand what the heck was going on there.

Tivo boots.. then reboots shortly going into the Menu's etc.

I'll try the 5 hr turn off tip later on.

I only recently Did a Clean install on the Tivo and now its rebooting itself..

Just now the Tivo boots up.
Shows the TV Video then 3 - 4 seconds into that it reboots.

There shuld be a easy way to force the Tivo to do a Factory Reset.

Two things that helped me:
1) "Clear Everything" on Tivo also changes the video output settings. If you have enough time between the resets, go straight there and change it to match you TV capabilities. Fixed 1080i should work with a HD Ready TV set.
2) Again, if you have enough time between resets - go to settings and turn front panel display on. I have no idea why it works, but it did for some reason significantly reduce the frequency of reboots on my Tivo.

Thats not normal behavior. Lol. Take that back. The worst ours does is mute when we change channel once a week at most, but changing to another channel and back usually fixes it. Never reboots though. hasn't been turned off for about 3 weeks now, and last time it was turned off to take it round to show some family when we saw them on the news. Lol

Not Normal agree...

I think i figured out what the problem was...

Recently i moved the Tivo from inside a TV Cabnet, I put it ontop of the TV (SDTV)
Its designed to have a DVR etc. ontop.. i was looking at the System Status when the Unit was off for 1-2 hours and it was siting around 40C (Mmmm strange)
Becose i rember it showing only 36C or so before... So i Moved it back and now its working fine.. siting at 36C...
I Don't get what the Problem is as it actualy has more airflow ontop of the TV,
I am guessing the Little bit of heat the TV Generates is causeing it to Overheat.
But did't start till a few days ago... (when the Hot weather started)

Seems fine now, Will post here if i have anymore problems.

Agree the Tivo has been on eversince we got it around 3 months ago.

Love Tivo Can't wait for Prime to get there Act togeather or Tivo People (x fingers everything settles down with them, Add's the Data for us... ) Else i don't realy watch Prime. I can't stand Live TV lol.

And now my frequent rebooting is back with vengeance.
The funny part is that while it was working fine there were two definition indicators permanently lit up on the front panel - 1080i and 576p. I have no idea how I achieved it, because I haven't managed to recreate this setup since then. But for whatever reason, this was the only configuration in which my Tivo was stable for the last 3 months. It finally rebooted itself just about a week ago, and since then it's been back to the bad old ways.
Does anyone know how I can get the 576+1080 again? It wasn't a hybrid mode, I must say, the "Hybrid" indicator was off. It was just both 1080 and 576 on.

How long should a reboot take - ours is showing the "welcome Powering up" screen. It did it last night and is doing it again. It has been up for over 15 minutes.

Will turn over during the day to see if the rest gives it anything.

Why not just take it back to Telecom or whatever? Its clearly faulty

Mine did the same. Started doing it intermittantly and then started everytime.

Contacted tivo - they sent a list of things to do. Advised them it didnt work, and I had a new tivo box at my doorstep in a day and a half.

Don't bother with messing around with it, just Contact Tvio and get a replacement.

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life. What are the chances of that like?

I've had all the above problems as well. The rebooting problem was fixed by plugging the TiVo into another power socket?!?!? Then I had the no sound/chopy sound/no picture thing. Contacted TiVo and got a new replacement unit for free.

There seems to be alot of us having these problems, lets hope the new ones dont have the same issues. I notice they are made in Mexico - what's their reputation like for manufacturing electronic goods?
