Funny that my legitimate criticism (well mixed review actually) of my otherwise excellent Tivo is taken personally by users unrelated to the product.

If you are going to do so, please get your facts right , improve your comprehension, and preferably not question that I have a different experience of the product.
I live in a strong DVB-T area and my DishTV T1020 never dropped channels or signal.

The Tivo is marketed and sold to joe public as "it just works" Freeview DVR with superior ease-of use, and added frills like Caspa etc.
Mine doesnt show TV1 and TV2 and is rather noisy. Busy people, old people, small children arent going to be rescanning every day when they want the news on.
They have falsely promised fixes in the past for the dropped channels, so this is their chance to make good.

farns: I just got one of these, works well apart from daily losing TV1 and TV2 in my area, I see they have repeatedly falsely promised updates for this so if they cant fix it within the 10 days mentioned on their site from yesterday, this semi-useless box is going back for a refund.

Pity you didn't read the thread you would know you can ring and ask to receive the beta update (being rolled out production this week) which fixes the issue.

That must be related to certain areas,. I have never had that problem.

Other than that, its great, but Im surprised and disappointed they used such a low-quality rattly uneven sounding exhaust fan.

Fan doesn't rattle at all.  No louder than any other PVR/DVD recorder I've owned.

Fans quiet on mine.  I see that Caspa has some new movies.  Nothing main stream though..

Totally agree - the fan's only noisy when first turning the unit on, otherwise it's basically impossible to hear it. I've had external hard drives that are far noisier - as is our old Pioneer DVD/HD recorder, and my parents' Magic TV.

Great.  Went and purchased a second one today so thanks for the info :)  Purchased online the home networking so I can watch recordings between machines seems a bit expensive just for a license but worth it.

I just went and bought one also, unfortunately its DOA.
I think the HDD is gone, so will be returning it tomorrow.

Perhaps theres a reason these things are going cheap?

There looks to be plenty of stories on the intertubes about TiVos with dead HDDs.
Why don't they make them a little more robust for brand reputation? ie. operating system on a recoverable Flash, and a HDD that can be quickly swapped out without having to undo the case etc.

Bad luck!

I would imagine they don't really want people upgrading them so not in their interests to make parts easy to swap, so they can sell newer models (i.e. designed obsolescence).

We also returned a "technically challenged" unit after having it for 3 weeks.  1st week was fine. 2nd week a little flaky. 3rd week... DEAD!

We have another unit in the living room (first run when they were released via Telecom store)

Still love my TiVo :D

I have been meaning to post about my experience setting up a 2nd TiVo.  Totally impressed with how well they interface with each other and even more impressed with the online side.  Scheduling shows to record using the Genie online and being able to easily switch between one unit and the other setting it up.  Great!

That'll be another review for another day... Maybe once I get a replacement unit from Noel Leeming.  Their support was pretty good.

Telecom told me that they will just switch them if they die out of the 12 month warranty too, if you buy through telecom. Even though they would be covered by the CGA anyway. I found Noel Leemings a bit resistant on switching one of mine, as they said they would need to contact their supplier which they couldn't do at that time as it was closed. So I would contact your store first to make sure that they will do a straight swap instore, otherwise you may have to make at least two trips.

@mattwnz

Well hopefully replacing it won't be such an issue if it is DOA.

Shouldn't be, but I would ring them first, so they can contact their supplier if they need to.
