Hi,

Could you direct me to where the PROM chip can be bought from and if there is anyone in or near Wellington that can do the install (for a fee of course).

I have my TiVo and my mum's to get sorted.

Cheers...

I'd be keen as well - being in Nelson, this seems like the closest alternative..

Kinda nuts that its Q4 of 2017 and we are finding it hard to find an acceptable alternative to a 2009 box from Mexico.

If I manage to get my one done once the parts arrive, I will be happy to help others in Auckland.

It sort of also proves that these boxes aren't dated technology, and the technology hasn't advanced much since these were released. Freeview transmission with a PVR box is what it is.

Is anyone a NZ Consumer member, and asked them what they think of the situation?

What do you think / want them to say ?  Its been discussed a lot this/last year, that Freeview (Australia) has ceased its services.

Do you want them to keep the service open, even though it may not be profitable ?

I was just checking the info stats on Tivo.

It says guide is cached until 31st October which is the day it stops.

I thought we were going to get about 2 weeks after october 31 with the guide ?

Thanks for the update Spong, all sounds very encouraging.

Is there anyone in Auckland that can do the PROM chip replacement?

Please add me to the Auckland list for PROM replacement of two TIVOs.  Very happy to pay.

I'm sure I've mentioned this several times already, but I have stock of the PROM chips, but currently I'm very low on sockets with more due in about a week from now. I'm able to do some chip replacements under duress (due to failing eyesight) but would prefer other volunteers here fill in the gap. I'm in Auckland and there is someone in Christchurch also with PROM chips. PM me for details.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

It is nothing to do with freeview Australia as afar as I am aware???. It is Tivo NZ that is closing down, as apparently their license is due to expire with the owner of the Tivo brand. I would just be interested to see their opinion as to whether they think up to 5 years of product life is acceptable,  when there was no expiry date disclosed on the product. I suspect when it does close down, there will be quite a bit of noise from those less technical wanting to know what is going on. Up till now it has all been hypothetical. I recall that recently someone asked them about a phone, and how long it should get software updates for.

I haven't checked mine yet. I will have to force an update on the last day to make sure I get the final updates.

For TiVo users in the Manawatu/Wanganu that would like to keep using their TiVo i I have a friend that can do the hack for the TiVos to get the EPG from the community EPG system.  Private message me.

TiVo didn't include netflix for example, so I don't personally see TiVo as the one box to rule them all.  Reality is a laptop plugged into the TV is still hard to beat.

Theoretically it may have been possible, as it did have casper and later quickflix, but both where painful to use due to slow processor. But the fact is that this tivo is really a Freeview based  PVR, rather than a box that runs additional apps. If you want smart functions, a $50 chromecast will add all those features to the TV for you, which you control via your phone.

It really doesn’t matter. Pretty much all of the companies involved have gone, or are based overseas. There’s no one to go after.

A bit like being a member of a union, and complaining it’s not fair when your whole company goes under and everyone is laid off.

Hi All, New here but have read this forum over time to see what resolves we have for the tivo EPG. Ive had and been involved with tivo since Beta testing. Currently still have three units. With family and friends also based on my historical recommendations. If someone could direct me to eprom and sockets i'm semi keen to try doing a swap as I have a fairly good soldering/hot air station with a reasonable amount of experience. Willing to sacrifice one of my units for practice. Although I would prefer not to get involved in the chip programming itself. Thanks in advance.
