OK, I have had this problem before.

I don't remember whether they just decided to see other again or the fact that I re-started one or the other, because in the past, one can see the other but not vice-versa.

This time, they both cannot see each other and it's been like this for 3-4 weeks. I have restarted both (within 24 hours of each other) but still no recognition on either.

Both are using an ethernet cable plugged into powerline box.

Both connect faithfully to get the EPG everyday and on demand.

I know this has been reported before, but I haven't seen a solution.

Have you also tried restarting your modem/router and any other network equipment as well?

I am now having this same problem. I also reported it on here. The only solution I have found is restarting the router. I have also tested another router, and the same problem occurs. I have 3 TiVo connected, and when it occurs, none of them see one another, which would suggest that it isn't a problem with the actual TiVo, but something remote on the TiVo servers which give the  tivos permission to access home networking features. I have had these for a couple of years, and it has only started happening in the last few months . Glad I am not the only one having problems.

I rarely have a problem with all three of ours, but every now and then one seems to fall off the "Now Playing" list. Restarting the modem/router always seems to sort it out, sometimes with a forced connect to the TiVo servers thrown in for good measure.

Given TIVO has basically been abandoned in NZ you're probably limited to trying to contact Hybrid (who I believe have the support contract component) or TiVO in Australia presumably?

Have you tried turning both TIVO units and your local modem/router off and back on again?

I've had this problem before, the exact cause? who knows, the fix.....a dumb cheap network switch with all the tivos connected to it, and that in turn connected to the router.

I had the same issue with one of the older technicolor modems supplied by telecom. Fixed by upgrading to the newer modem.

That is interesting, I am using one of those. But ithas been working fine for years. So wondering if it is the modem failing, or some software update has been pushed out to the tivo that is causing a problem.

Recently I have had so many examples of newish routers just messing up the bridging between the ethernet ports and the wireless, and between each of the ethernet ports. Not sure what has changed in recent router chipsets but its a right PITA - putting the lan on a switch with that connected to the router has solved all the printing, scanning, airplay etc issues for several friends.

The modem router is a Vodafone HG659 (VDSL), so relatively new in NZ.

Interestingly, on the downstairs TiVo, it saw the upstairs TiVo last night. However, when accessed it said that there were no recordings on the upstairs TiVo.
An hour later, it had disappeared again.

I checked the upstairs TiVo later on and it couldn't see the downstairs one.

As of now, they cannot see each other.

Last night the upstairs TiVo saw the downstairs Tivo and I could transfer a program.
By morning, it had disappeared.
Today, the downstairs TiVo saw the upstairs TiVo, but showed nothing and later it had gone.

Baffling.

I do like the TiVo box, but sometimes if can be very frustrating.
For example, for the last week, it decided that Prime was not available because it didn't detect a digital signal and therefore didn't record a program. It took me a few days to wonder what had happened and track the issue down.
The mere fact, this it has't had a problem for years is unbelivable.

Yes they can be frustrating, but it fails in comparison with the igloo box, and how much that freezes up and needs unplugging. The tivo box itself seem really reliable once it is powered, hardly ever reboots itself. WIth the network problem, I just restart the router and they see each other again. I have 3 that can either all see one anohter, or they all stop seeing one another.

I have stopped re-booting the router.
They appear and disappear with regularity.

I had hoped that DanHybrid may have left a comment, but I haven't asked for his help.

Have you tried a different router? You aren't using a telecom one are you, because someone else said those could be causing the problem.

I'm with Vodafone VDSL and only have one router.

Common theme here seems to be the VF Routers, I've been in the same suitiation, the fix was a cheap nasty switch between the router and the tivo, your other option, replace your router with something else.
