Hi all, this is my first post.

I upgraded my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 via Windows store some months ago. Immediately afterward, the TiVo Desktop Home Network Package stopped being able to transfer programs to my PC. It can see the programs on both my TiVos, seems to be about to transfer, and then says Some Transfers Have Been Interrupted. Reason is: The Specified File Cannot Be Found.

I have checked online, and tried several things. I removed the original TiVo Desktop using TiVo Cleaner, and re-installed it. I have restarted my PC and TiVos in various orders, and waited for a couple of days. No change. My two series 3 TiVos can transfer to each other, and also download from my PC. But no transfer from TiVos to PC.

In the meantime, I did the same thing on my husband's Windows 8 laptop, and could still transfer files with the identical TiVo Desktop HNP. However, it means that I now have to transfer shows to his laptop, move to a disk, copy to my PC, and then transfer back to the TiVos when I want to watch. I would rather be able to use my PC directly.

Finally, the PC running Windows 8.1 also stopped being able play my TiVo files at the same time! Reason is: Windows Media Player error C00D11B1

If anyone could help with either or both of these issues, I would much appreciate it. I use FireFox, rather than Internet Explorer, and maybe there are some underlying windows privacy settings etc. that I don't know about?? My Windows 8/8.1 knowledge is somewhat limited, I just use it...

Otherwise, should I upgrade to Windows 10 – does the Desktop HNP work with Windows 10 and can Windows 10 play TiVo files?

Hello and welcome to Geekzone.

I seem to recall a patch to fix an issue somewhere along the line. Possibly related to your issue. Have a look for a patch on the TiVo site and try installing it. Barring that, try reinstalling TiVo Desktop and then ensure the latest patch is also installed, to see if that works.

@soycd17 Here's the patch that may help with the transfer problem. Not sure if you'll need to log in to install it.

Also, try restarting your TiVos, which is something you're supposed to do when you first install TiVo Desktop (from memory). Might just need to nudge them to start talking to the software properly.

Hi, Hope I am replying in the right place – thanks very much for the suggestions.

@Stu – I definitely have the Patch installed. I have restarted TiVos and PC.

I decided to try and reinstall the Desktop HNP again today, and downloaded the Cleaner afresh. I ran it, and it said that Desktop had been removed successfully.

BUT I note that TiVo Desktop program hasn't actually been uninstalled. So that seems odd. I can still open it from the TiVo Desktop shortcut icon on my desktop and I can still see a TiVo folder containing the application in my folder called Program Files (x86). However, I can't see it as a program in the Control Panel, so I can't try uninstalling it that way. So maybe it is corrupted somehow, but I can't get rid of it. I tried just deleting the TiVo folder, but it wouldn't let me cos A File Was In Use By Another Program [file wasn't specified, and no other programs were running; probably not a good idea anyway!]

Any further thoughts on the above would be appreciated too.

@gregmcc – thank you, I am glad to hear the Desktop HNP works on Windows 10...but I'm guessing that I may need to sort my problem out first, given that you had no problems on Windows 8.1 either? I wonder if it might be something I am not familiar with in FireFox firewall [I might have read something somewhere]. Do you use FireFox by any chance?

Ouch okay. um. Did you try uninstalling the program normally before running the cleaner, and did you restart the computer after running the cleaner?

Have you tried reinstalling TiVo Desktop anyway since restarting and running the cleaner? Don't forget to install the patch again after reinstalling the software ;-)

@Stu – Do when I clicked on the Desktop Installer exe file again, it gave me an option to uninstall. So I did that, including the MAK info etc. The uninstall appeared successful, so I used the Cleaner too, then reinstalled Desktop again plus the Patch, restarted my PC and restarted my TiVos, connected the TiVos to the TiVo service etc., and even waited 24 hours before trying to transfer again......unfortunately still the same. My PC can see my TiVo programs, allows me to set up a transfer, seems to start the transfer, and then gets about 4 seconds into the transfer before saying that the transfer is interrupted cos the specified file cannot be found...

I have a niggling feeling that it might just be some minor setting that I have set up incorrectly somewhere [like a firewall setting in FireFox, I seem to have got that idea from somewhere]...but I don't really know where to start checking...

Using Firefox shouldn't make any difference to the transfers. TiVo Desktop runs fine on my Windows 8.1 machine (which does have Firefox installed). Perhaps try to sort out the Media Player problem first to see if that helps?

Sounds like corrupted video codec's, this converts the video format from whatever is on your PC to the .tivo format

Agree with this thought, as that seems to be what the error code for Media Player indicates (corrupt codec or codecs) from a quick search on Google. Certainly worth looking at.

Thanks very much for the comments, I'm glad FireFox is unlikely to be the problem. However, I have zero idea about Codecs. Where do I find them, and how do I check them? Or reinstall them...

I use k-lite codec pack, only problem I have is the nag screens when there are updates, wish it would just update and be done.

So I can find a website to download k-lite just fine [although you might have a recommended one?], but I haven't done anything yet. Because, what I don't know is where my current codec files are located on my computer, whether I need to check what I've already got and do anything before downloading, where the codec files will be stored when I download them, and how to tell WMP to use what file. Basically, I don't know anything about codec files. I have also never used WMP, other than when I used to play a TiVo recording, TiVo Desktop used to open WMP for that purpose, and now it can't. Sorry to be so uninformed...
