After some trouble getting the PC to see the TiVo (TiVo Server Properties | Access Control) it made it to the list. Note the TiVo was always able to see the PC on "Now Playing List".

Anyway, now they can both see each other. Let's try and actually watch something I have sitting on my PC... First the easy way: copy a file to My Tivo Recordings folder and open it from the PVR... Nope, nothing there.

Next try was TiVo Desktop Plus: select another folder to transfer. The file shows up on the desktop list, but on TiVo it says "empty"...

If I try to see recordingts on TiVo I open the TiVo Desktop and when I click Pick Recordings to Transfer I get this:

"There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR. Access is denied"

Any ideas?

Ah, I see... The FAQ says it can take up to 24 hours for the MAK (Media Access Key) to make its way to the TiVo. What a pain!

And after about four hours the MAK was downloaded and the PVR is now seeing the network...

Yes, it can transfer... Both by leaving the file on TiVo Recordings folder, and manually adding from the UI.

The machine I am using for the TiVo Desktop is a Windows XP virtual machine running on my Windows Home Server. I haven't tried it on my Windows 7 box yet.

I just talked to Tivo support and apparently windows 7 and macs aren't supported by Tivo Desktop yet..
I checked the tivo transfer logs on win 7 and it can't find my MAK key when it trys to transfer by the look of it.
It works fine on a Vista and XP box here though ..
I'll just have to wait until they support windows 7 i guess.

Umm.. I presume it comes with V2.8

on
http://www.tivo.com/buytivo/tivogear/software/tivodesktoppc.html

it says system requirements..

Windows? 7, Windows? Vista, or Windows? XP, with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later.

Also.. there is Mac software now which works 100% in NZ..

Maybe they need to update their helpdesk staff...
