Hi

I am in the process of making a wedding photobook as a gift.

I chose to go with Vistaprint and use the software package that they offer

so that I can do this off-line.

The format I have chosen is the larger XL format 39x29cm, with a hard cover and gloss prints.

I have rotated some photos on a slight angle but the sides appear a little jagged, but hoping they do not

come out like that in the final print.  I will call their customer service to verify before the final upload.

I know that there are a number of websites , like frogprint, snapfish, and jamjar to name a few

but I like the level of customisation that the vistaprint software offers and already committed.

I do not want to use any other software like adobe photoshop etc, as I am more than half way through the process

Just looking if fellow member of geekzone have used Vistaprint recently and if they have any feedback to offer

I am plan to use the special 50% off Waitangi sale on until 10 Feb 2016.

Feedback regarding Vistaprint is a mixed bag, but again people vent their frustrations mostly when they are unhappy!

Thanks

I got a photobook from Vistaprint for Christmas. The software was a complete pain in the arse. Every now and again the application would crash and at other times it wouldn't let me save.

That said I was quite happy with the quality of the book when it arrived. It would pay to check the photos you plan to use quite closely. There was some chromatic aberration that I hadn't seen in one of my images which was quite obvious once printed.

Thanks

I have had no issues with the software yet, but I will take your point though.

I am just a bit anxious where one customer cross checked his upload but the final print came out with a few

blank pages.  But at least he/she got the refund

cheers

I like those lay flat photobooks, where you can go a genuine panorama across the two pages.

Hard to find in NZ though.

I looked at Vistaprint a while back but couldn't get them to handle a couple of my panoramic snaps correctly. :<

Colleague at work got an A3 hard cover photobook with 50 photos (including front & back cover) for $46 incl free shipping during a recent offer from Kroma. It's 50% off full RRP atm which is $60 incl free shipping. The quality of photos and photo paper was really good and ofcourse the price.

VistaPrint, in general, is typically "good enough" rather than "great".

Regarding tilted photos... don't. I've designed 50+ wedding albums, and the ones that stand the test of time are the simple ones. My key principles are balance (which is related to symmetry), flow, white space, and story telling. Many of my pages are one image with a white area around them, sometimes 4, 6, or 8 but always with white space. White space isn't empty, it's a design element - the more you cram in the cheaper the album tends to look. Sometimes one image goes across the spine and takes up two pages. I don't do fancy borders or anything - I can't given I mostly do a modern take on matted albums these days, but even if I do the digital book type design, I just don't. Simple, simple, simple.

If you PM me I'll send you a link to my wedding album design tutorial.

Thanks guys

I do have a a few pages with one photo selected as a back ground. (transparency set to about 30%)

There is also a one photo spread across the whole 2 pages ( wedding guests)

I think the books get printed in OZ and shipped to NZ. Colleague  from work just got his business cards printed.

I will take into account your feedback

Off topic:   why are my sentences with so much space between the lines?  I am using Chrome BTW.

They changed how paragraphs work recently.

The whole "photo background" was the in thing probably 10 years ago, I still have one sample wedding albums in that style. I haven't made one for 5 years though. Even doing books, which I rarely do, I wouldn't do it unless it was specifically requested. Clean and simple survives the test of time better, I've found.

My brother had one done about a month ago, and I wasn't that impressed with it. Mainly I thought the cover was a bit cheaply done and the folding and corners were a bit rough. I guess they are ok for the price. But you get what you pay for. The print resolution I don't believe is anywhere near as good as you would get printing on an inkjet.Personally I prefer albums with good quality prints in them.

If you use SHIFT + ENTER, that may not break them up into two lines,

Has anbody used these guys or Diamond Photos before?

They appear to be one-and-the-same company. Strange that you would be trading under 2 names doing the same thing?

I was thinking about using Diamond photos for a photobook.

In my limited experience with these things they're all much of a muchness at a given price point.

Warehouse Stationary now does this also.  Ok if you're after something basic, but non are too professional at the lower level.

They all often do half price deals etc, so keep a look out for that if you want to use them and aren't pushed for time.

We used Snapfish for some wedding albums - great software and they always have decent sales on.
