cjmchch: I recently traveled to Botswana to take a couple of photos.

Here's a couple...

The first one is gorgeous, my favourite. The second is just fantastic timing, nice one. I bet you were happy with the shots you got?

What particular Blackout technique/software are you using? You prob aware but there is a facebook group dedicated to the technique.

My first ever shot with my telescope, a chance moment, somehow I fumbled through software, hardware and processing to get this image. Some issues, never the less real life drama has rough edges.

Also managed to capture the moon last night once I realised the clouds had parted.

Here is my first reasonable shot of the night sky, Carina NGC3372, Shot with a Skywatcher Espirt 100ED apo, a ASI1600MM (monochrome camera) and LRGB, SII, OIII and Ha filters, about one hour's worth of exposure.

Just a 500kb version of a 387mb data file, Shot with open source N.I.N.A capture software, processed with open source deep sky stacker then finished in GIMP 2.10.14

Very cool @Masterpiece. Still haven't convinced SWMBO that a telescope and associated equipment is a valid investment. I'll keep working on it.

Yes there is modest base line equipment which can get you pretty reasonable images, then just really expensive equipment.
Although there is some core pieces of kit that if you short change upon you can come unstuck with frustration quickly.

Anyway, it gets you outside at night to try and communicate with ET's whilst waiting for your images to develop.

Some isolation photos, spent 2 weeks in Australia under isolation, then 2 weeks in Auckland on the way back.

Great shot! What is the Saturn-like object in the upper left area of the photo? (Edit) Having a second look - it wouldn't be Saturn by any chance? ;-) When I first looked I thought the moon would have blocked that area of sky, but I guess it could have been just clear of the moon's rim?

Yes Saturn was intersecting with the moon which is known as a conjunction, I didn't plan it at all. One of the pieces of software I use is called Stellarium which can interface with the telescope, and whilst in setup and alignment phase I noticed Saturn and the moon coming together, so I did a panic set of images. These are are set of frames of about 1000 images, stacked. I actually ran several at different gain levels to be able to draw out Saturn as the moon is very bright.
