Those two photos are great. I have been trying for a while to take some good photos of birds but didn`t manage to get anything even close to those. Good job.

Can get decent deals for them second-hand. *

Most people prefer a 500 as it is quite a bit lighter, so while the 600 only rarely come up for sale, there isn't much of a market for them either at the price the seller usually wants.

* decent maybe a matter of perspective

Understood. I however would like either a 400 f2.8 or a 200 f2.0 ... might have to sell an eyeball however ...

Yeah I've always wanted a 400 2.8 as well, just as hard to get hold of a good one. I don't think I'd use one now though, just doesn't quite suit.

I tend to see more 500 f4's for sale than 400 2.8L IS.

400 f2.8 seem to be around $3-$4(and don't sell), 400f2.8 IS are around $6-7(but never come up), 500f4 and 600f4 around $7-9, all for mk1 models I think.

Thanks, I was pleased with it, especially with conditions it was taken in.

Taken at f4 and iso 32000. Just pleased the camera was able to focus enough, under dark conditions.

Having the robin land in a small patch that was slightly brighter than the surrounds was a bonus
