Stunning shots there

Did you stack shots? or long exposure?

Just single exposures of anything between 15 to 30 seconds.

Although lately I have been combining multiple shots into panoramics. I put the camera into portrait orientation and pan 6 or so shots across.

So no, nothing too fancy and complicated in editing like some people do. What you see is basically what came out of the camera.

Here is my filckr album where you can see EXIF...

@dipkiwi , how did you get that boulder to look like it just got thrown out of a volcano? Impressive.

haha... I did enter it in a photo challenge at DPreview titled 'lava rock'.

There was another photographer shooting beside me who momentarily turned his red LED headlamp on.

That's one of the good things about shooting nightscapes - you never know exactly how things are going to turn out and what you'll get.

Wow!

Some good work in this thread!

Myself, I like shooting astro nightscapes.

Some recent shots of mine over the last week...

That first Nugget Point (right?) shot of yours ... what's the light on the horizon on the LH side?

(great shots BTW)

Yep thats Nugget Point. The orange glow at the left is a small distant town that's actually sitting on a small peninsular that you can't really see in the photo. The other two wee bright dots on the horizon would be fishing boats.

Looking at the bearing and time, could I suggest that's the very first rays of morning twilight?

Sure, you could always suggests that.  Am always happy to answer any sorts of questions.

1; The sun would have been rising on the elliptic following behind the moon, so it would have started coming up pretty much directly behind the lighthouse.

And 2; The orange glow was there all night long, as you can just see in this photo taken at 03:16...

Plus as dawn starts to break, usually the stars just start to wash out with an increasing light blue tinge to the sky even a good hour before sunrise.

Actually, it could even be the glow from Dunedin thinking about the direction it's in.

Nice colour and light.

I vividly remember flying into Hong Kong and seeing such a bridge (perhaps the same one) from the plane. It was very striking across a large stretch of water.

Thanks @Jaxson
