Hi
I bought a "tough" camera  (Sony TX5) a bit more than 3 years ago and it is not working anymore. Nothing happen when I try to switch it on.
I paid 450$ for it and I was expecting it would last a bit more than 3 years.
5 years would have been reasonable in my opinion.
Am I dreaming and should I expect to replace the camera every 3 years or do you think I should claim under the consumer act?
Cheers

i think you can claim a CGA on them. will be a lengthy process though.

first thing is to write a polite letter explaining your request and their obligations under the CGA. then file a $50 disputes tribunal claim.

I have a $200 digital camera that's over a decade old and still going strong. I don't think I'd expect a new one to last quite that long, but for a more expensive one I think 5 years minimum would be reasonable.

Is it the camera or the battery that's not working?

I actually think the first step would be some form of personal contact to explain the fault/issue, either back to the shop or by phone, and see how the seller reacts.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Bung: Is it the camera or the battery that's not working?

This is the key question - batteries often die after 3 years - cameras do not (with normal usage).

As said need to ascertain what is wrong first then if it's due to warranty. Can't expect to get any advise without that info

Thanks a lot for your help.
I really appreciate.
I asked the shop what I was supposed to do and they replied to look for a sony repair centre.
Before going any further I was just checking that I was not the only one to expect a longer life expectancy.
The camera was working fine few hours before (I managed to take some photos)
When I tried to check the photos it didn't worked.
I have fully charged the battery after that without success.
However as you have suggested I should/will test with another battery.

Cheers
