More recently I encouraged friends and family to move to Signal, after I deleted WhatsApp.

Is there an issue with WhatsApp (other than ownership).

I have it for a couple of message groups.

If you use Android & the default backup service (it's free!) then your data is backed up to Google Drive - unencrypted & negating the E2E privacy you thought you enjoyed. Google, of course, have access to your WhatsApp backup data that they store for "free" (& then share to FB, it's fair to assume). The online backup function is being slowly enforced by the app, WA now only stores 7 days of data locally, after that it's Google Drive with no option available for you to upload / store your data anywhere else.

Megabyte - so geek it megahertz
