This, plus bias is not neccessarily a bad thing.

Bias is present anywhere subjectivity is present. The best that can be hoped for is that bias is transparent.

It's also a valid choice to vote on culture/strategy with the policy just the detail that sits under that. In an MMP environment, where much is usually negotiated after the election, that may be a betterapproach. It's certainly a lot easier.

Particularly with the minor parties, who present a "if I ran the zoo" policy platform. In coalition, most of those policies will get dropped. Will the policies *you* care about be enacted? If the party in question's culture/worldview is more aligned with yours, they're more likely to choose the way you'd want them to.

When I was younger I was sure I knew all the answers and that I was voting for the right people. Now ... I know I don't know all the answers, and am suspicious of people who claim they still do.

I love this phrase.

I think it's also fair to say that regardless of party size. Policy often fails to manifest as reality because of practical considerations or factors beyond the govt's control.

This resonates with me, you can have the best policy in the world but it is the implementation that matters.

How many times have we had well intentioned policy that has broad appeal, I.e affordability but if the rubber even meets the road, it does it work, feel, look like it was spoken about.

Personally, I look at values of the party and their former actions.

I believe actions speak louder than words, especially in election season.
