Nearly four years ago after my daughter was born my brother had this made out of redwood (I think). I have never hung it for two reasons, I have been afraid of damaging it and I want it secure and not able to fall (it's a solid bit of timber). French cleats seem the best option but where do you buy them?

Thought about wood ones but they would stick out too much. Plus have to attach it to the back, paranoid about splitting it. Think it would have to be metal.

3M velcro strips? ( a lot ).

Ive used them sucessfully for various projects.

Just have to actually obey the instructions on use and they are a solid option.

I would stand it as you have been rather than hang it. It has a base, might look a bit odd hanging something that has a base. Glue some felt to the base so as not to scratch what furniture you stand it on. That's my opinion

No base. Just a large slabe about a meter high with her name and a just carved into it

If it were me I'd use a suitable weight couple of D ring fasteners (they vary) that lay flat, screws and wire, same as galleries do for heavy pictures. Pre drill the holes for the screws (the bit should be a tiny bit skinnier than the screws so they are tight when you screw them in but not so tight as to cause splitting, and don't drill all the way through of course). You have to be careful how far down you put the D rings because if you put them too low it will sag forward from the top, not sit flush on the wall. Then put a screw in a nog in the wall through a picture hanger (the kind with the hook) and hang it on that.
