Hi,

I have the Doorworks door for the Garage as shown below.

What are the automation options I have with this? Whatever I have seen mentions merlin, but nothing related to this. Any suggestions?

Assuming there are relay contacts you would need to look at a third party add-on module that supports your Automation system of choice. The manual would normally highlight relay contacts in one of their diagrams.

It looks like this one:

They say "Door travel rate – 135mm/sec".
If it's a sectional door there should be a big coil spring which acts as a bit of a counter weight to the door. If this had the wrong tension on it it would have the effect of making the door heavier - you would need to get someone to adjust it. Don't think this is normally a DIY job.

Have a look at the nexx-garage-nxg-200. I got the older -100 model which is much the same. You attach it in parallel to opener switch and gives you wifi control etc, with the app , it has open / close status and reminders if left open. Works with Alexa too and geofence routines if you really want.

I would be hesitant in automating a garage door opener without beams/cats eyes...

Its possible to get some remote switches that could activate this but I would not recommend it without IR beams. Something that Merlin insist on as it prevents your door from being damaged and protects the door from closing without something blocking it.

hi,

i have the exact same unit,

i got the ismartgate kit from mightyape

i also have intergrated a dlink ip camera into the app so i get a live feed within the app of whats going on.

happy to help you setup if you in north auckland.

I use a Belkin WEMO Maker. Easy to install and set up, connects to your home network via wifi and controlled by the belkin app on your phone and let's face it you always have your phone on you.

I automated my garage door 18mths ago with a Wemos board and a relay and not ever had an issue where I would have needed beams/cats eyes

I use https://open garage.io. Works great. You would only need beams if you are opening and closing the garage while not within sight of the garage with multiple users.

I used a raspberry pi and a relay switch that worked well. I had the same garage door opener.

theres also things like the belkin wemo maker which I used and worked well. and theres z-wave devices.

but all these have the problem of not really knowing when its open/closed. theres sensors that kinda work, but not 100%

Raspberry Pi with relay to open/close. Read switch to determine whether open or closed.

Also has Pi Camera with Motion running so I can see what is happening.

Integrated with Home Assistant.

And last but not least also running Asterisk so I can phone in to find out if the door is open or closed.
