HarmLessSolutions:

For those of you with PowerCo as your lines company check out their website statement regarding a 10kW export limit. No change yet to their T&Cs but our installer is on the case and is hopeful that we will be able to open up our 8.2kW inverter without restriction, plus we have a 5kW inverter going into our other phase.

im going to have to ask vector what their plans are

I asked Network Waitaki and they said at a recent meeting they'd decided to stay with 5kW and no plans to move up to 10.
This was after Aurora announced that they are now doing 10kW. 😒

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Thanks for posting this. I've asked my installer and they are aware. They will be addressing this for existing installs in the coming weeks. Note that an application still needs to be made to Powerco along with supporting information (voltage readings etc) before the limit can be increased/removed.

Hopefully this will be able to done in conjunction with the coming export voltage parameter relaxation to avoid two visits for the two settings changes. I've approached our installer, who is already onto the export application for us, in regards to this.

Hopefully it doesn't need a visit to change the voltage parameters?  For Fronius, you can get to the local configuration interface through solarweb. Settings -> Components -> Inverters -> Actions -> Device Settings

For those waiting for V2G... i found that Vector has an EV V2G inverter on the approved inverters list now

Though it seems in 2018 this inverter cost about 10K so the economics are not really there unless the price has come down significantly.

That is just the same as going to the local IP address of the inverter.

You need the technician login details to change some parameters and the most parameter, access code for country setup password to change the rest.

That was one of the first and only chademo based one that came out. now days its all CCS based.

Would love to see one via the AC port but i suspect the issue with that is there is no 2-way communication there.

Yes exactly, so the installer should be able to change these settings remotely and not need to visit for local access.

Our installer needed to get the voltage settings from our inverter here when we were having a crack at PowerCo over grid over voltage so expected same to change settings.

We have an application for increasing export rate pending so will find out how changes are made in due course.

The Vector approved inverter list is baffling - we had the Sigenergy SigenStor EC 10.0 SP AU approved in Dec 2024 - yet to show on the list.

There have been hundreds of Sig install in Auckland 🤷 Some, no doubt, with the 12/25kW DC Charging module which supports V2X (though expensy).

Our installer has advised the PowerCo have okayed our application so he will book us in for his next 'rainy day jobs'. He can also make some adjustments to the inverter's grid voltage parameters as PowerCo have updated their reg's in this regard too.

Apparently the Fronius 'Snap' inverters including our Primo 8.2 aren't able to have settings changed remotely so a site visit is required.

I've got three strings on the roof, each with a twin 4mm cable running in a shared 32mm PVC conduit.

I'm looking  to add another string.

To save me having to get up on the roof to take a look, is there any chance I could draw another twin 4mm through to add cabling for the new string.

The tilt and orientation of the proposed new string means I cannot extend an existing string and as the house is concrete I'd prefer to not have to drill to install more conduit.

You'll hopefully have room in the 32mm condu for another 4mm twin . My installer ran 25mm condu - was a tight fit to cram in 3 x 4mm twins + ground. 32mm has almost double area

25mm conduit

  • Diameter: 25mm
  • Radius: 12.5mm
  • Area:

A=π×(12.5mm)2≈490.87 mm2cap A equals pi cross open paren 12.5 m m close paren squared is approximately equal to 490.87 mm squared

    𝐴=𝜋×(12.5𝑚𝑚)2≈490.87 mm2

32mm conduit

  • Diameter: 32mm
  • Radius: 16mm
  • Area:

A=π×(16mm)2≈804.25 mm2cap A equals pi cross open paren 16 m m close paren squared is approximately equal to 804.25 mm squared

Solar generation in Auckland for October was pretty disappointing compared to last year. About 16% less than 2024.

2024: 1200kWh

2025: 1032kWh
