I agree with the upgrade of the shed to 3 phase if possible, especially if you are charging cars there. I decided to go for a 3 phase charger when I bought my single phase Leaf, but now have a different car (Nissan Ariya) which will charge at 22kW - no changes required to my installation. I think many cars will support 3 phase charging in the future.

with cars coming out with 500kw, 1000kw and now one has demonstrated 1200kw charging, 22kw would be considered trickle charging.

You have already discussed this (your thoughts on EV charging) in either this thread or another, and it would be appreciated if you didn't discuss it again as it didn't go well the first time.

and i'm not discussing it.

if your doing things like underground cabling, might want to keep in mind that battery tech is evolving fast giving who knows what abilities in years to come. pay to either over kill on the cables or have the ability to drag new ones through. even tho you don't want home batteries now, that may change soon.

Home charging LoL

Good luck getting 500kW out of your grid connection

but quite possible to get it out of the home battery storage. i know there is people out there who would use it if they had it.

Sounds like a real corner case - come home with a flat battery, need to get it up to (near) full charge quickly so can go dashing off again.  Maybe as a taxi/uber driver ?

I think all these fast charging rates are only via DC so that's not your normal EVSE - you'll be spending ten thousand on a DC charger.

What is a typical solar system installation time from paying the deposit to up and running?

(in Christchurch)

My [probably poor choice] supplier really dropped the ball, and so after waiting a month, have finally scheduling it for installation in two months time.

I think it took 4-6 weeks between us paying and the install, about a year ago in Wellington. Two months lead time would be about what I'd expect.

I simply refuse to believe that MW class charging will ever be seen in a domestic situation,

Huh, So looking back, last time I tried to get a quote was late 2020. Harrisons was one of them.

Yours looks good.

I'll be getting in touch with harrisons and rheem. Solarman seems to be Wellington only.

And someone else - anyone have any north shore Auckland recommendations for a metal tile (decromastic) roof?

@Stu1

I've had two quotes now, and the Gerard roof brackets seem to add quite a lot to the install. That looks like what you used.

30 panels, split across two roof surfaces, 10kw inverter, $31k.

Approx 6k is the roofing brackets.

How much did you spend?

@CokemonZ Ouch. Does that include the labour to remove the Gerard tiles, fit the brackets, and fit shiny new tiles?

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I've also been quoted an extra $5k to install a 13-14kW panel system on a metal tile roof using the Gerald brackets (when compared to install cost on standard longrun roof)
Was told a lot of extra labour and parts, to manually lift each tile (removing old nails/screws), mount the Gerald bracket, and then re-screw down with new screws the whole tile again.

Hence we're now looking a new longrun colorsteel roof, as our tin tile roof is over 25 years old, and needs some slight work anyway (to address other issues).

I’m surprised they’re not putting in a price for fall protection scaffolding. That adds up

So a little more detail:

Includes pricing for lifting tiles and installing brackets. Doesn't mention replacing tiles and wasn't discussed.

14.8kw (30 panels)

Split across 3 roof surfaces so expect some extra cabeling etc.

Brands are:

Panels: Longi LR7-54HVH-475M

Inverter: SolaX X1-SMT-10K-G2

Hmmm,

may be back to looking at the carport........

Roof doesn't need work now, was painted 5 years ago - wanted to do solar at the same time but couldn't then.

Dont need it, you can use a bolt/screw down anchor point on the other side of the roof that goes over the peak and tie your harness off to that.
