TV3 just had a news item about one going on fire in NZ.

Did some damage - and not just to Samsung's sales prospects.

Its Quite concerning that the plastic they use in it is burning so well.

The technician visited us today.

All he did was, open the board cover, the power connectors are currently uncovered. He wrapped the connectors in a white bag and sealed the bag so that moist air may not directly come in contact!

Gave a complimentary washing powder pack as a sorry from Samsung!

I read that was the fix. Probably resolves it. 100%? 90% But I cannot help feeling concern, even after the fix. Its a bad design, fixed. But its still a bad design.

Makes you wonder if it meets NZs / Aus electrical safety standards, if it could potentially cause a fire.

I have a F&P stove where the oven vent can drip condensing steam onto the control unit. Their fix for that was to wrap the control unit in a black bag. That No. 8 fix has lasted over 15 years.

Iv a Samsung they fixed it but I feel unsafe with it in my house and put 3 smoke alarms in the laundry. I would prefer a refund so I can go buy a machine I feel safe using. Went to use it for the first time today and it now has an error :( phoned the support line asked for a refund but was told someone would ring me back in 72 hours.

Dear Mr Samsung repair man: no, I can't be home in 30 mins.

Because
(a) This is Auckland. Almost NOBODY can be home in 30 mins. Have you seen those roads?
(b) I work. I'm a teacher. My students notice if I nip out. My wife is an engineer. The power grid works less well if she's not at her desk. People NOTICE stuff like that.

This does NOT mean that we do not want our washing machine fixed. Please call back. We miss you.

Getting our Samsung washing machine "fixed" on Wednesday. A local electrical repair firm rang. Guess they must be the samsung approved repairers.

Our machine is almost year old. We tossed up between Samsung and Fisher and Paykel. Bugger :(

so let me get this right, even when its fixed it isn't safe?? just wondering given the amount of people that now want it replaced. Anyway under CGA if it is fixed satisfactorily then that is all they are required to do.
