We picked up a Bosch series 6 late last year, my only complaint about it is the amount of rinse aid it goes through. With the previous f&p a bottle would last ages, but I've been through at least a bottle since we brought it. I keep meaning to ring Bosch and see if this is normal or not.

Had a Bosch front loading washing machine, but it had a noisy belt drive and developed an occasional leak that we could never track down. Replaced it with a Miele, which was a definite upgrade.

How old was it? Was it a basic one or one of their high end? Mine's close to silent, it's a new one, top of the range when we bought it a couple of years back.

Can't remember the exact model, but it would have been mid range. We probably kept it ~10 years, and I had several attempts at finding the leak (definitely not the door seal), until we finally decided to replace it while we had it out of the laundry during earthquake repairs. The Miele we replaced it with is probably also mid range (for Miele), but is very significantly better.

You can adjust how much rinse aid is dispensed during the cycle. Instructions are in the manual....

Dishwashers aren't the kind of thing that change much in 6 months, especially given people keep them for years or decades. That thread is worth reading. My recommendation is unchanged.

I understand that, most of that thread is almost 3 years old, and a good read, the latter 6 months doesn't have much useful info

However, it looks like Bosch or Miele. Not anything much I can find on AEG. There is only one Miele at HN

Bosch, Miele, Asko are all good. Best approach might be to ask your local whitegoods repair place which has the best service. In Chch I was told a few years ago to steer clear of Miele because they were having issues with the local service company. I doubt it that still applies, but with a projected lifespan of 15 or so years you don't want to be buying an appliance which isn't properly backed up.

Hadn't heard much of the Miele brand but they don't look too bad.

Numerous discussions of failed FnP units, which is kinda sad given how they were once synonymous with quality.

You might want to avoid the Miele Professional PG 8528 though...

Might have to withdraw my recommendation for a Miele - the nut on the top spray arm crumbled away the other day, after more than 21 and a half years of service. Have bodged a replacement, so the dishwasher is still going strong, but simply not good enough IMHO ;-)

totally agree, I am expecting a minor fault on my Miele in 20.5 years time. I bought my second-ever Miele after 26 years and no faults.

I would recommend staying away from Bosch. We have had 2. The first one had all manner of issues with LCD screens dying and varying cleaning results.

The new one is more reliable so long as you use it's LONGEST HOTTEST and least EFFICIENT cycle. Anything less, your dishes won't get cleaned.

When I called them out on it, they said it was meant to be that way and wouldn't have a bar of doing anything about it.

When we insisted, they told us we could return it to them and have it tested onsite at their service centre. They would not hear of an onsite examination.

It's the last appliance of theirs I'll ever own. We had a Washing Machine, Dryer, Oven, Stove Top, all top of the line stuff.

First, Bosch, really good and silent, and washes and dries very well. Consumer agrees.

We have Series 6, and on that you can adjust the amount of rinse aid it uses...tells you how to do it in the manual (I know, I generally don't read them either!)

We've had the exact opposite experience with Bosch. We are on our second Bosch and both have been flawless. No issues whatsoever. I would not consider anything else.

We also have a newer F&P as well and it is a pig. Difficult to load, wand keeps hitting dishes, clean is a lottery anywhere between some what clean and dirty.

Don't discount them because HN only have one model. It will be good, but expensive.

Don't expect discounts on them either. Miele is sold on consignment I think (ie. Harvey Norman do not own the stock). Like Apple, their margin will be very tight, and they probably don't get a rebate.

Other than that, not much else I can really add. We have a F&P Dishdrawer. 7 years old now, going well. Cleans well (if you stack it right - don't put stuff in that stops the arm going round but that applies to all dishwashers). Don't get a Smeg - housesat for a place that had Smeg appliances for a few months and the dishwasher was the biggest POS I've ever used.
