We have an old Dishlex unit which we can hear from anywhere in the house but it does a great job at cleaning. We'll probably replace it when we renovate the kitchen in a few years.

One of our offices has 3 F&P double dish drawer units. Each unit has needed to be serviced at least 3 times in the last couple of years. Electronics issues, flimsy components, flooding... Avoid

Miele and Asko also rate highly, though the Miele is probably a $500 upgrade on top, or even more. Miele don't go on sale very often either if ever.

I have no experience with Asko.

I am keen to know what models you guys have and any experience. Things we care about is how well it cleans and drys, how noisy it is. Cost isn't our primary concern. I'd be keen to hear of others service experiences as this is relevant.

love my miele

I might be told to go start a new thread or something, but I see dishwashers for $500 and ones for $2000. Whats the difference - do they last 4 times as long, do they wash in a quarter of the time, are the posh ones really so much better than the cheapies ?

Features and quality. More wash types, better configurations internally, larger, more efficient with water and electricity, though Bosch said that washing has become so much harder with the constant pressure on less water use.

Another chemical. I use white vinegar and seems to do the same thing. For the wash I use eco powder and that seems to wash just as well.

Ecostore tablets may be recommended in the Consumer test (72% versus 75% for the highest-rated), but their powder was the lowest ranked at 39%. Best-rated powder is Miele at 61% but $25 a bottle (next-best powder 50% at $8).

Personally, I’m ok at using a less-effective powder as we rinse before we put in the machine; we only run it every three or so days.

Back to the OP: personally I’d be wary of Bosch machines going by the number of people I know who have had problems with theirs. That said, the brand shows above average reliability in the latest Consumer survey!

White vinegar is also a chemical. Everything's a chemical. In this case they're just surfactants.

We now have a Miele integrated dishwasher. The only downside is it's so quiet and doesn't have any indication it is running so it is easy to forget and open it while it's running. Solved that problem by 3D printing an "ON" placard to hang over the handle.
More expensive than other brands, but a case of getting what you pay for. First dishwasher, a top of the line Dishlex lasted 12 years and ultimately was tossed because of a lack of parts being available in NZ. The LG that replaced it was cheap and it showed. Noisy and flimsy.
Have had the Miele for 4 years and am happy to recommend it.

I think we might be best to change away from Bosch. We like the layout the most, it's nice looking, but with the issues we have had, I wonder if we are just setting ourselves up for more heartache.

Meiele are having a big promo starting March for anyone that cares.

I have never been a fan of F&P, but I have to admit that I quite like the dish drawer that is here as part of the landlord's chattels. It is very quiet, cleans well and, most importantly, it is able to fit into the limited space of what is a very dated kitchen design.

OP: If you must choose between Miele and Asko, choose Miele. We've never had a Miele dishwasher but have had an Asko for 12 years and have been underwhelmed by it. Only one true failure (motor start capacitor) but every year or so, it stalls with a fault code that means it's time to grub the accumulated fat and grease out of the internal trap (by hand, with difficulty) and unless it's on a pots-and-pans cycle it leaves a lot of its contents well short of sparkling.

We've had 2 F&P Dishdrawers (at different houses), including the supposedly to-be-avoided pre-2000 model, and never a problem with them. YMMV.

Thanks. Apparently, ASKO come in two varieties, the two I am looking at are Scandinavian designed and manufactured and apparently, that makes all the difference.
