neb: From the photo of the Ali one it looks about the same quality as the Vynco one I've got now for power, meaning cheap and flimsy in both cases. I'm not expecting much, but as long as it's no worse than the power board next to it I'll be fine.

Just drooling over what I could get if I was in this US, e.g:

Steel latching door with Gib stopping bead integrated into it

Same but with a white frame and tabs you can bend around the Gib to hold it in place

For anyone actually contemplating getting one of those, beware that the dimensions are misleading, it's the outside of the frame and not the opening like you'd expect and like sellers on eBay and Aliexpress advertise.

have used these in the past https://www.jaycar.co.nz/sealed-polycarbonate-enclosure-171-x-121-x-55/p/HB6218 for similar problem, just not recessed, but possible. They also do a clear lidded version too.

Marine chandleries stock a range of sizes and shapes of plastic hinged hatch covers and enclosures.
Not the kind of place that's top of the mind when looking for something for a wifi enclosure and marine stuff is generally on the pricey side, but if there was something the right size that looks good the high-ish price might be worth the saving in mucking around.

I would recommend looking at the recessed boxes that go behind wall mounted TVs. Pop into any electrical wholesaler, they should all have stock.

For example https://www.matchmaster.co.nz/accessories/04mm-hmh01/

https://dynamix.co.nz/avb300

The benefit is they have provision to install a power outlet inside the box if needed, or just put "brush plates" like this for cables to come through: https://dynamix.co.nz/FP-BRUSHP

Steel door and Wifi? Depends on which direction your Wifi AP is...

There are numerous sellers of those in NZ.  Maybe bigger than what you wanted, but Potters sell a 200x200 with plasterboard bead - https://potters.co.nz/product-collection/hardedge-hatch/

I am actually using one to hide the central heating controllers in our hallway.  Will need shims for the 13mm vs 10mm gib

That looks pretty impressive, but unfortunately with a price to match...

Found an even better one that's just a flat panel that can be painted over, which means WAF is pretty good. However, this also creates a crossover to the What are some particularly egregious examples of 'kiwi tax' thread. Prices:

Placemakers: $145

Bunnings: $77

Amazon: $9

No, that's not a typo: Placemakers have a 1,100% markup, Bunnings merely put a 540% markup on it (with the USD price converted to NZD).

Ask your sparky to get it for you from a trade store. They are certainly not that expensive.
