Think I can beat everyone. My usage cost is going up to 0.2907 kWh + GST, up from 0.2585. So 0.3343 kWh inc GST.  That is a massive increase IMO. The daily rate only drops 6 cents, down to 1.05 per day .

They have said that the cost average increase will be 55cents a day in my area. That is still about $17 extra a month in additional cost which sounds a lot. But not sure who I would switch to. Contact apparently have 3 free hours a day.

Contact' prices are now significantly cheaper than my current EK rates.  Tempted to switch, but i've not heard good things about them and have never been a customer of theirs.  But, the potential savings mean I'm now definitely considering them.

How often would you expect to be dealing with them?

IMO retailers are just ticket clippers that provide no real value so I'd just go with the cheapest option

Yeah, that's a fair comment.  Just did my own quick comparison on my latest EK bill (of course rates are current, and before the price rise) with Contacts offering.  EK was $170, Contact would come out at $125.  Seems to good to be true.

I recently changed from EK to Contact's new Good Nights plan.

My average Hour of Power saving was 40%, and I should be able to save quite a lot more now with 3 hours instead of 1. The daily charge and unit rate are the same as before.

I do feel bad because I was a fan of EK, and the Good Nights plan is a thinly veiled attempt to poach EK customers and put them out of business because EK's CEO is an outspoken critic of gentailers and their manipulation of the electricity market.

I've moved from EK to Contact on their Good Nights Plan (free hour from 9pm to 12mn) last week.

This is my usage generated yesterday by Home Assistant.  Almost half of my usage is free.

Compare that to my previous EK usage where I only have 9pm to 10pm free:

Note that these charts are not exactly comparable as I haven't added the free HOP computation for the EK chart.

These numbers are also only good on winter where eating runs full blast from 9pm.  It will look different once cold nights are gone.

Feels bad, but I too have just swapped over last week to Contact. I really liked EK's approach and their customer service, and I dislike Contact's ethics - but ultimately money talks and I am not a charity. I have been with Contact before and the customer service is average but you never need it anyway.

Their Good Nights plan is great value with actually slightly better rates than I had with EK (pre-increase), plus the three hours of free power.

Contact's current $200 sign up bonus does NOT apply to Good Nights plan, however you can use a $100 referral link from an existing customer (which gives you and the existing custy $100 credit).

This is quite unfortunate. I used Electric Kiwi at my previous place and had no complaints at all.

When I moved recently I signed up with Genesis so that I could get electricity and pipeline gas on the same bill. They have been quite awkward to deal with and their online tools are a usability nightmare.

And this will be why I won't be switching. It's still a decent value for me and whilst I could say maybe $38 dollars by switching to Powershop(I looked around last night!) I don't think it's worth cutting down on customer service, ethics and not supporting a company that is doing it's absolute best to stay cheap whilst cutting their own costs first before anyone elses.

I think EK is pretty good and I don't blame anyone who switches considering I seem to be the only low power user here and everyone else seems to be on standard(holy hell your fixed rates are bad) and you need to find the cheapest price.

Nah, I'm another on a low user plan. [If it wasn't for the free hour I'd be right on the cusp  - average over the past year has been 21.9 units/day including free hour (crossover point is 22); excluding the free hour it's 15.3.]

And I'm in a very similar boat in terms of potential savings - Powerswitch suggests I'd also save $38, by switching to Contact's Good Nights Low User plan. Really not sure if it's worth shifting (especially to Contact!), noting that 9-12 for free power isn't as useful for us as the 6-7am timeframe, which is perfect for heating the house.

I'll work my increase out. 1 free hour is enough, and with Solar HW the power bill will plummet shortly as grid power is off all year apart from 2 one hour boosts (one free), the pay one has stopped now already. And no twin heatpumps in action nor the heated floors. As a Low User the extra probably isnt much in the 6 months of warm we are about to hit. I'll review mid Autumn

Just made the switch myself. Looks like we can save about $50 a month by switching to Contact.
